Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 650 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

Overall purpose of the role:

Your main duties and responsibilities will be to ensure transportation of the safely driving and ensuring proper required maintenance of the truck transporting MDU equipment DRC HDP Ukraine staff to any location within area of operation in a safe and timely manner in accordance with HDP standard operating procedures (hereinafter referred to as the SOP) and the current regulations of the Representative Office of the Danish Refugee Council in Ukraine (hereinafter referred to as the DRC) and actively available and participate during loading and unloading of MDU equipment and maintenance.

Main Responsibilities:

• Complete the daily driver’s log.
• To be responsible for the use of the truck and trailer.
• Ensure the truck is in good working condition daily.
• Ensure timely reporting, recording and documenting of any faults on the truck to the relevant personnel and making sure all related documentation is available, timely and correctly filled.
• Perform daily maintenance according to the driver’s manual and report any problems to the Demining Supervisor.
• Ensure the truck is timely serviced and scheduled maintenance timely carried out by the relevant qualified mechanics.
• Should drive safely the truck transporting MDU equipment.
• Should actively participate on MDU related equipment maintenance whenever required.
• Keep the car clean, including the engine, body and interior.
• Always check the vehicle is always equipped in accordance with the driver’s manual.
• Ensure all passengers fasten their seat belts when driving, if applicable.
• Unauthorized passengers unrelated to DRC HDP programs and/or DRC HDP operations are prohibited unless approved by DRC HDP Supervisor.
• Perform all other duties as requested by the Demining Supervisor and Technical Advisor.

Required experience and competencies:

• Driving license CE category.
• A minimum of 5 years of previous driving practical experience of heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
• A minimum of 5 years practical experience of driving and transporting heavy/earth moving equipment.
• Experience of driving on rough roads other than asphalt roads with heavy equipmment.
• Knowledge of the performance and capabilities heavy duty trucks and trailers.
• Experience of working with multilifts.
• Basic knowladge of English.

Preferably:

• Repair and practical mechanic skills desired and will be added advantage.
• HMA knowledge will be added advantage.
