Job description
This role is registrar or middle grade level. We would aim to provide training in subspecialty rotations as documented below dependent on availability. Exeter is a center of excellence for orthopaedics and research with good opportunities for involvement in research and quality improvement projects. Initially we have funding available for up to 12 months but with a view to extending if the need and funding becomes available
You would be expected to work as part of the orthopaedic subspecialty teams in both trauma and elective capacities. You would be expected to undertake fracture clinics, elective outpatient clinics, elective and trauma operating lists under the direct supervision of a consultant orthopaedic surgeon commensurate to your level of training and experience. You would be expected to undertake on-call commitments as part of the orthopaedic on-call team covering general orthopaedic trauma including covering spinal referrals out of hours. Training will be supervised by a named consultant. This post does not cover hands and the majority of soft tissue injuries. The on-call commitment includes an overnight non-resident component covering the resident on-call SHO where the expectation is that you remain with 20 minutes travel from the hospital overnight.

Applicants should have completed general training in trauma and orthopaedic surgery with minimum requirement to have completed core training or equivalent. The applicant should be able to function as a middle grade within the trauma and orthopaedic team with directly supervised operating lists, outpatient clinics and indirect supervision for on-call admissions. The applicant should have completed MRCS or equivalent as a minimum
