Present in Guinea-Bissau since the signature of the Cooperation Agreement with the Government of Guinea-Bissau on 29 June 1975, immediately after its independence, the UNDP Country Office in Guinea-Bissau has been the lead partner providing support to the Government in the areas of good governance, sustainable, inclusive, and resilient development, working for a future that offers equality, dignity, and opportunities for all. Key Programme focus areas are: a) governance: constitutional review, rule of law, local governance structures, empowering women, youth and civil society; b) promoting inclusive economic growth: poverty reduction, providing decent work, food security, and the structural transformation of the economy through economic diversification, digitalization and innovation, value chain development and market support systems; c) climate change adaptation, disaster risk management and mitigation, preservation, and development of biodiversity; and d) health and social protection
The UN Clinic laboratory Technician performs his/her functions under the guidance and direct supervision of the Medical Doctor In-Charge of the UN Clinic. The UN Clinics operate under the general supervision of UNDP on regards of all administrative matters.
Duties and Responsibilities
Management of the UN Clinic laboratory to ensure smooth operation of the day-to-day functions;
- Ensure safe handling of bio-hazardous materials in compliance with the international standards and practices;
- Draws blood samples applying international sterilization and bio safety standards;
- Collects and labels urine, stool and sputum samples for different tests following international bio safety standards.
- Perform all laboratory tests as requested by the Medical Doctor in promptly and professional matter;
- Autoclave and sterilize the instruments and containers following international standard of bio safety
- Report in a timely fashion result of tests to the Medical Doctor;
- Ensure that the reports are managed in timely, promptly, and confidential manner
- Ensure proper management of reagents stock; Keep an inventory of laboratory supplies and ensures that the supplies are always replenished and adequate.
- Make arrangements for outside laboratory tests for UN staff when required;
- Keep records of all work done in the laboratory and provide statistical report in regard to laboratory activities.
- The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Skills and Experience
Education:
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technician
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Laboratory technology is required.
- Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) is required.
- Experience in Personal Protection Equipment application during any procedure performance is required
Language requirements::
- Fluent Portuguese is required. Good working knowledge of French and/or English) is desirable. Knowledge of Creole is an asset.
Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section:
- Previous working, in health facility with well-organized laboratory is desired.
- Proven experience and good knowledge of the microscopic examination is advantageous.
- Experience of the using all laboratory machines.
- Working experience within UN agency is an asset.
