Duties and Responsibilities

Background: On 8 September 2022, the General Assembly unanimously adopted resolution 76/306 to establish a UN Youth Office as a dedicated entity for youth affairs within the Secretariat. Among its responsibilities, the UN Youth Office is mandated to fostering meaningful youth engagement in policymaking and decision-making processes at different levels, including at the UN. As part of the UN Youth Office work in this area, various products will be launched in 2025 across the work of its UN System-Wide Coordination and Accountability (UNSCA) and Partnership, Advocacy and Communications (PAC) Sections. Scope of Work: The editor will be responsible for copy-editing and proofreading of various products launching in 2025, including: 1. A compendium of good practices on meaningful youth engagement in policymaking and decision-making. 2. A strategy paper for strengthening national youth consultative bodies and their meaningful engagement in national policymaking and decision-making. 3. A strategy paper for strengthening meaningful youth engagement in global policy and decision-making processes. The contents of the reports will be provided by UNYO. The editor is responsible for delivering a launch-ready version. To complete this task, the editor will collaborate closely with the team in UNYO, as well as the graphic designer contracted by UNYO for this purpose. Expected Deliverables: 1. Edit a compendium of good practices on meaningful youth engagement in policymaking and decision-making. 2. Edit a strategy paper for strengthening national youth consultative bodies and their meaningful engagement in national policymaking and decision-making. 3. Edit a strategy paper for strengthening meaningful youth engagement in global policy and decision-making processes.

Qualifications/special skills

Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Literature, Journalism, Humanities, Foreign Languages, International Relations, Arts, or any other related fields. A first-level university degree with a combination of two years professional experience and academic qualifications may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Five (5) years of demonstrated experience in proofreading and editing is required. Understanding of and experience in editorial standards required. Excellent writing skills in English. Ability to deliver quality outputs against tight deadlines.

Languages

Fluency in written and spoken English is required; proficiency of other UN Languages is desirable.
