Position Overview

The U.S. Climate Alliance is a bipartisan coalition of governors securing America’s net-zero future by advancing state-led, high-impact climate action. The Alliance Secretariat helps its members accelerate climate action by providing a broad range of technical, analytical, policy, and capacity assistance and resources. The coalition has also built strong relationships with the federal administration to help create and implement an ambitious, durable national climate framework. The U.S. Climate Alliance Secretariat is seeking an intern ready to contribute to its research, policy development, peer-to-peer learning, and coordination work. The intern will respond to specific project-level needs such as tracking policy progress and implementation, supporting modeling and analytical efforts, and providing general coordination and program support. This role is an opportunity to gain a comprehensive and in-depth and understanding of the types of policies and actions U.S. states are advancing to drive down GHG emissions across the economy. The intern will be expected to work as part of a broader team that includes Alliance staff, consultants, external partners, and member states.

This is a paid opportunity from January 27, 2025 – April 11, 2025, and offers an hourly compensation rate of $17.50-$20.00 per hour.

Essential Functions

  • Tracking and data entry of ongoing policy into the Alliance’s policy tracking database
  • Identifying potential data and methods for quantifying and tracking metrics for state policy progress
  • Conducting policy research, analyzing key sector and technology trends, and drafting briefing papers that assess policy options across climate issues.
  • Working with team members to prepare materials that support major Alliance meetings and workshops.
  • Additional support tasks as needed.

Selection Criteria

  • Applicants can be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Applicants with a bachelor’s degree or higher are also encouraged to apply.
  • Strong research skills, ability to write and communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in state climate policy and coalition building.
  • Experience, familiarity, or interest in GHG emissions and energy data and modeling tools.
  • Interest in innovative ways to communicate technically complex materials.
  • Be responsible, flexible, collaborative, hard‐working and committed to the mission of the U.S. Climate Alliance.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.

Level of Education: Bachelor Degree
