UNODC’s mission is to contribute to global peace and security, human rights and development by making the world safer from drugs, crime, corruption and terrorism.

This Strategy for the next five years will equip UNODC to deliver effectively, efficiently and with accountability, elevating our support to Member States to build just, inclusive and resilient societies that leave no one behind.

Context

The UN Volunteer will be involved in the development, planning, implementation and monitoring of advocacy and communication strategies of UNODC Indonesia.

Through the assignment, the results/expected outputs are as follows:
• Communications and advocacy strategy for UNODC Indonesia.
• Regular and timely production of outreach materials related to UNODC Indonesia’s works, including, but not limited to, articles, press releases, monthly highlights and social media posts.
• Enhanced collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including the RCO, UNIC, and external counterparts.
• Gender equality, diversity and human rights perspective are systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities and outputs throughout the assignment.
• A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed with UNODC and UN quality standards.

Task description

The purpose of the assignment is to support the development, planning, implementation and monitoring of advocacy and communications to increase the visibility and accountability of UNODC’s programmes in Indonesia and ASEAN, and strengthen engagement with government, development partners, civil society and the general public on UNODC’s mission and programmes. The UN Volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the UNODC Head of Office in Indonesia.

Within this coverage, the UN University Volunteer in Communications and Advocacy/the Communications Clerk has specific duties including the following:

• Support the development, implementation and monitoring of UNODC Indonesia’s advocacy and communications strategy,
• Coordinate the design, development, and content uploads of UNODC Indonesia’s programme activities to UNODC’s website and other relevant online and social media platforms.
• Serve as a focal point to coordinate with the UNODC Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific (ROSEAP) communications officer on drafting, compilation and submission of articles on programme activities in Indonesia.
• Serve as a focal point to coordinate with the UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Jakarta on content production, campaigns and other outreach activities relevant with UNODC Indonesia’s works in Indonesia.
• Liaise with the respective public relations/communications unit of UNODC Indonesia’s programme counterparts on developing and publishing outreach materials relevant with the project cooperation activities.
• Support the development of press and social media packages following publication or event schedules under UNODC Indonesia’s programme activities.
• Support internal clearance processes for news releases, publications, and other products in close coordination with UNODC Indonesia Head of Office and relevant officers at UNIC and UNODC ROSEAP.
• Establish and maintain close links with external stakeholders including media representatives, other UN agencies, donors, and civil society organizations.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned by UNODC Indonesia Head of Office.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and taking active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
