For two decades, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has been helping make the world safer from drugs, organized crime, corruption and terrorism. We are committed to achieving health, security and justice for all by tackling these threats and promoting peace and sustainable well-being as deterrents to them.
Because the scale of these problems is often too great for states to confront alone, UNODC offers practical assistance and encourages transnational approaches to action. We do this in all regions of the world through our global programmes and network of field offices.
The UN Volunteer is expected to contribute to the enhanced coherence within the UNODC Programme for Central Asia, Sub-Programme 3: “Addressing Drug Use, Increasing Treatment of Drug Use Disorders and Preventing HIV/AIDS” which aims to increase the quality, availability and access to evidence-based services for people affected by drug use disorders and HIV. The Sub-Programme 3 supports Member States to develop balanced, human rights and evidence-based drug control and HIV policies and strategies, as well as effectively coordinate and implement a comprehensive response to the problems associated with illicit use of drugs and the health and social consequences, including HIV in partnership with relevant governmental and non-governmental institutions.
Additionally, SP-3 assists the Member States in developing a system that provides alternatives to incarceration for drug users who have committed non-violent drug related crimes through high level advocacy, review of legal and policy frameworks and building capacity of health care workers, law enforcement officers and other professionals.
Under the direct supervision of the National Programme Officer the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
• Analyse existing guidelines and templates to identify gaps and areas for improvement, and share best practices in their use;
• Assist in developing and implementing Knowledge Management, Learning and Information Sharing Strategy, Framework, and/or Action Plan to advance the institutionalization of Knowledge Management;
• Contribute to the development of clear, concise, and user-friendly Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in HR, Admin and Travel management, Finance and Procurement ensuring they are comprehensive, covering end-to-end processes, and are easily ac-cessible to all relevant personnel;
• Establish a robust documentation management system to organize and store documenta-tion, guidelines secure;
• Participate in development and enhancement of existing processes for maintaining UNODC corporate knowledge management platforms, tools and systems;
• Jointly with programme colleagues develop solid data collection mechanisms and tools in line with planned interventions;
• Liaise with internal and external partners and stakeholders to gather information
• Perform any other related work assigned by the supervisor.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publica-tions/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
