Mission and objectives
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the centre of all its efforts, the UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It provides strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.
Context
UN Women is the lead UN entity championing women’s rights and roles in peace and security, cooperating closely with an array of national and international actors. It backs the efforts of governments and civil society organizations in Europe and Central Asia to prevent and resolve conflicts by supporting National Action Plans on UNSC Resolution 1325, encouraging women’s participation in peace talks and helping to address the legacies of conflict-related sexual violence. It advocates for more attention to women’s specific needs and vulnerabilities across diverse policies and programmes. Knowledge generation and management is a key part of UN Women programmes – a number of knowledge and advocacy materials are planned to develop to support WPS programmatic work. It is planned to publish and disseminate widely the advocacy products to be designed.
Task Description
We are looking for Online Volunteer/s who under the guidance of UN Women WPS Policy Advisor and in close collaboration with the communications team will support us in creating advocacy products on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) in ECA region, based on findings of key UN Women ECA knowledge products developed. The online volunteer(s) will produce graphic designs for WPS advocacy products. In particular, the Online Volunteer is asked to: – Systematize information to be provided by UN Women and develop an outline for the advocacy products, based on UN Women corporate branding/publication guidance; – Create draft designs based on requirements and discuss with UN Women focal point and communications team; – Finalize the design according to agreed requirements. The design/layout should follow our corporate design guidelines which will be shared with the Online Volunteers in advance.
