Mission and objectives

Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD) supports the private sector and foundations to become transformative partners in development through research, advocacy for inclusive business, facilitation of public-private dialogue and brokering partnerships. IICPSD, established in 2011 in partnership with the Government of Turkey, is one of UNDP’s six Global Policy Centres. It leads UNDP’s global work on private sector and foundations and supports UNDP’s offices all over the world. The Center focuses on four thematic areas: 1. Inclusive Business; 2. Private Sector Engagement in Skills Development; 3. Impact investing; 4. Resilience and Crisis Response. The Center also hosts four global initiatives: Business Call to Action, SDG Philanthropy Platform, Global Islamic Finance and Impact Investing Platform and Connecting Business Initiative.

Context

On March28, 2025, a powerful earthquake struck Myanmar, affecting multiple regions and communities. In the aftermath, timely and accurate information is essential to coordinate relief and recovery efforts. Given the limited access to certain areas and the urgency of response, online volunteers are being mobilized to support humanitarian partners through crowd mapping and data analysis. This remote assignment aims to generate actionable insights by mapping damage, needs, and available resources using open data, satellite imagery, and reports from local sources. The results will directly inform decision-making processes for aid distribution and recovery planning.

Task Description

The online volunteers will support the post-earthquake response in Myanmar by contributing to crowd mapping, data collection, and analysis activities. Volunteers will gather and validate location-based data, map affected areas using open-source tools. The insights generated will help guide response efforts by humanitarian actors. Online volunteers from Myanmar are strongly encouraged to apply
