United Nations Development Programme is hiring a Operator Radio to

I. Background and Organizational ContextAs part of the strengthening of the United Nations Office of Security (UNDSS) in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania (RIM), the Research Radio Operator Safety Office, for better rotation in its multiple responsibilities.
II. Position PurposeThe radio operator will strengthen the capacities of the SNU radio room by ensuring the proper functioning of HF and VHF networks and efficient monitoring of staff and consultants one throughout the national territory.He/she will be placed under the direct supervision of the head of the radio room and will work at the radio room in Nouakchott on working days by rotation, from 07 a.m. to 3 p.m., from 3 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

III. Key Duties and Accountabilities1.) Support for the implementation of the VHF and HF communication network of the United Nations System

Ensure the proper functioning of HF and VHF networks by carrying out installation, maintenance, and repair of SNU telecommunications equipment in Mauritania
Have knowledge in terms of lines, antennas, spread, landing, wiring and connection techniques;
Have knowledge of telephony and computer science on computer networks and their applications (programming of radios by software, etc.);
Being able to work in telecommunications towers and in any place where telecommunications systems are installed.
Ensure permanent training of radio operators and user staff on standard equipment
Respect and enforce the rules of use on the network;
Ensure the proper functioning of VHF and HF relays and bases;
Ensure the quality of communications, in particular, note technical problems and inform network users.Important messages must be recorded in a follow -up journal.

2.) Monitoring of urban and interurban missions of staff and consultants one throughout the national territory

Ensure good monitoring of urban and interurban missions;
Update the missions monitoring table;
Respect radio contact schedules with official or private staff and consultants;
Ensure the transmission of all regular or exceptional calls and the dissemination of security messages subject by the security office;
Reply to telephone calls from the radio room3.) Support in the facilitation of the coordination of communication with staff and consultants a compared to useful contacts and specific information of security

Driving weekly radio calls from United Nations agencies, funds and programs based in Nouakchott;
Facilitate communication with staff and consultants A compared to useful contacts and specific security information;
Report directly to the head of the radio room and / or the security advisor / local security assistant.

4.) Execute the tasks assigned by the head of the radio room

Animate and coordinate all the activities of the radio room;
Supervise the transmission of all regular or exceptional calls and the dissemination of safety messages submitted by the security office;
Perform the inventories of the equipment;
Update a security database on all aspects covering communication: Network radio indicatives, staff phone addresses, selective and radio indicatives of vehicles and bases one from the country and the sub-region, monthly and annual statistics of radio calls, monitoring of interurban missions;
Brief new arrivals on the exploitation of radios and the procedure in force;
Program with the agencies of periodic training sessions for all staff.

IV. Requirements:Education

A high school diploma is required or
A diploma in university studies (license) in the field of engineering, ICT, telecommunications or any other related discipline will be taken into account but not an requirement
Having a radio programming certification will be a great assetExperience, Knowledge, and Skills

Having at least 04 years of professional experience (for the secondary school diploma) or 01 years (with the license) in the field of information and communication technologies, telecommunications and any other related field is required.
Previous experience in the IT and telecom field with the United Nations telecommunications system, national or international NGOs or the government is an asset
Experience in a function either military, gendarme or police is an asset
A perfect mastery of French and Arabic is required.

Knowledge of English and one of the local languages ​​(Hassanya, Pulaar, Soninké, Wolof) is an asset.
