Duties and Responsibilities
The UNEP-convened Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is a partnership of governments, intergovernmental organizations, and representatives of the private sector, the environmental community, and other members of civil society. The CCAC is the only international initiative working on integrated climate and clean air solutions to reduce the rate of near-term warming. It focuses on fast action to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) including methane, black carbon, HFCs and tropospheric ozone. More information about the CCAC: www.ccacoalition.org As of October 2023, the same team is providing secretariat services to the Global Methane Pledge. More information about the Global Methane Pledge: www.globalmethanepledge.org The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) hosts the Secretariat at the Industry & Economy Division in Paris, France. Given the nature of the CCAC as a partnership, and the Secretariat’s supporting role, each internship varies according to the priorities of the team at the time the intern starts. Typically, a CCAC intern’s work will touch on a range of workstreams, including: governance meetings; programme management of CCAC Initiatives; resource mobilisation; targeted briefings and communication products; etc. The intern will work under the supervision of the Programme Officer, and during their first two weeks will agree goals and an individual work plan for their internship. Duties may include, but are not be limited to: • Assisting with the organization of CCAC meetings and workshops • Collecting information on CCAC activities, via internet research and phone interviews • Drafting or reviewing CCAC briefings and papers • Attending and summarizing meetings and teleconferences • Other ad hoc duties to be determined
Qualifications/special skills
University degree in international relations/development and/or a scientific field related to climate change, air pollution or other environmental issues. Knowledge/studies related to development and/or international relations are a plus. During the selection process the CCAC Secretariat will look for candidates who demonstrate, with clear examples, that they have the following attributes: • Leadership skills • An ability to take initiative, be proactive • Highly organised • Writes convincingly in English • Advanced skills in Excel and other databases (incl. SharePoint) would be an asset.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required.
