The consultant will provide reliable technical coordination of programme/project planning and preparation activities. Process work and requisite follow-up accomplished under some supervision. Duties and Responsibilities

.UNEP is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda and promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The Education, Youth and Advocacy Unit oversees the education outreach and a series of youth projects for UNEP at its headquarters in Nairobi. This includes everything from engaging Universities that are part of the Youth and Education Alliance to engaging with partners in the gaming industry and youth movements. The consultant will be based in the Education, Youth and Advocacy Unit of the office of the Director, Ecosystems Division, UNEP, at the New Delhi UNEP Duty Station and will have a second reporting line to the Head of the India Office and a first reporting line to the Chief, Youth, Education and Advocacy Unit. The consultant will report to Chief of Youth, Education and Advocacy in the Ecosystems Division at UNEP Headquarters, who will evaluate the outputs of the consultant with a second reporting line to the Head of the India Office. Workplan The overall work plan will be agreed upon between the consultant and the Chief, Youth, Education and Advocacy Unit supervising the consultant. 4.1 Objectives, output expectations and performance indicators The consultant will provide a monthly output report to the Chief, Youth, Education and Advocacy Unit. Accomplishment of the consultant’s functions will be based on, but not limited to, the following: • Partnerships: Act as focal point for key partners of the Tide Turners Plastic Challenge (TTPC) programme and provide guidance for them in reporting and in the implementation the project in South Asia. • Communications and Outreach: Work on the delivery of success stories from the Tide Turners programme and organise events to promote the programme. • Reporting and Monitoring: Draft monthly progress report from partners providing monthly reports for the donor and compiling financial and narrative reports. 4.2 Specific tasks and responsibilities The consultant is expected to work closely with UNEP staff to perform the following: ● Work with partners to conclude activities of TTPC phase 5.3. ● Work with Oxford University in conducting evaluation and doing research on Tide Turner programme results. ● Work with partners in delivery of quarterly and final reports to donors. ● Work to implement the TTPC in Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. ● Additional areas of project assistance include: ○ Work with UNEP India office to implement the YEA unit higher education agenda, as required. ○ Work with UNEP India office to implement the YEA unit non-formal education agenda. ○ Work to enhance fundraising efforts by YEA unit – to identify, share information on potential donors/ partners at national/regional level. ○ Work to expand the non-formal YEA agenda in India, including Sport for Nature, Playing for Planet as required. ○ Work to consider the evolution of TTPC in South/South East Asia – Final Phase 5.3

 

Qualifications/special skills

Master’s degree in communications, social-science or psychology, international relations, political science, commerce, or related field is required. A first-level university degree, in combination with an additional 2 years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree • At least three years of professional experience in project management and youth programs is required. • Ability to deliver highly complex projects of a global nature efficiently and effectively is desired. • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, and reporting skills. • Computer literate in standard software applications • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines and in a demanding work environment. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

 

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required
