Organization Mission

About us

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is the driving force that helps build a world where the rights of every child are realized. We believe that nurturing and caring for children are the cornerstones of human progress. UNICEF was created with this purpose in mind – to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child’s path. We advocate for measures to give children the best start in life, because proper care at the youngest age forms the strongest foundation for a person’s future.

UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children’s rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. It is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and strives to establish children’s rights as enduring ethical principles and international standards of behaviour towards children.

UNICEF provides long-term humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in 191 countries through country programmes and National Committees.

What We Do

UNICEF works to protect the rights of every child in South Sudan

Context

South Sudan remains vulnerable to infectious disease outbreaks, including Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), due to weak health systems, population movement across borders, and limited access to accurate health information in remote communities. Misinformation and low risk perception can delay early detection and timely care-seeking.
In collaboration with the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, UNICEF South Sudan is implementing a digital awareness campaign to strengthen Ebola preparedness and response through risk communication and community engagement (RCCE). The initiative aims to leverage the reach and creativity of online volunteers to disseminate accurate information, promote preventive behaviours, and counter misinformation across digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities

The purpose of this assignment is to support UNICEF South Sudan’s communication and RCCE teams in designing and implementing a dynamic digital awareness campaign on Ebola prevention and response.

Online volunteers will contribute to:

• Increasing public awareness of Ebola risks and prevention measures
• Promoting early detection and timely health-seeking behaviour
• Combating misinformation and harmful rumours
• Strengthening engagement with communities through digital channels

Duties and Responsibilities

Content Development

• Develop engaging and culturally appropriate digital content (graphics, captions, short videos, infographics)
• Simplify technical health information into clear, audience-friendly messages
• Adapt content for different platforms (Facebook, WhatsApp, X, Instagram, etc.)

Social Media Engagement

• Disseminate approved Ebola awareness messages through personal and community networks

• Participate in virtual briefings and coordination sessions
• Contribute creative ideas to improve campaign reach and impact
• Support timely dissemination of messages during alerts or updates

Data and Feedback

• Track basic engagement metrics (likes, shares, comments where applicable)
• Provide feedback on community perceptions and information gaps

Expected Outputs

• Regular production of high-quality digital communication materials
• Increased visibility and engagement of Ebola awareness messages
• Identification and reporting of misinformation trends
• Weekly updates on activities and engagement results

Online volunteers will work under the guidance of UNICEF South Sudan’s Communication/RCCE team. Orientation, briefing materials, and approved messaging toolkits will be provided. Volunteers will coordinate remotely with designated focal points.
