Job Description
Instrumentation Mechanic Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the HVAC Shop Supervisor,Assistant Supervisor or other designated staff, the Instrumentation Mechanicperforms skilled journeyman level work in the operation, maintenance, repairand installation of mechanical, pneumatic and digital controls forrefrigeration, heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, and theCollege’s Energy Management Control Systems (EMCS). Monitors the EMCS frommultiple locations and reviews data/readings and makes necessary adjustments.
Provides written (electronic) records of work completed on adaily basis. Communicates with supervisors, contractors, Work Order Center andcustomers on a continuous basis through multiple means. Employees may performother duties as assigned to meet the needs of Trades and Facilities Servicesand Boston College. This position is deemed essential.
Requirements
* Must have a minimum of three (was five) yearsrecent, full-time experience working for a licensed Contractor, or maintenanceorganization installing, repairing, testing, calibrating pneumatic and digitalcontrol systems.
* Proficient knowledge and demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repairHVAC and Refrigeration systems controls (pneumatic and digital).
* Excellent communication skills
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and ability to work fromwritten or verbal instructions
* Skilled in the use of equipment and tools used in the HVAC trade
* Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license
* Ability to assist vendors as directed by their supervisor
* Maintains paper and electronic records
* Maintains appropriate parts and equipment inventory levels to facilitatequick and seamless repairs and maintenance
* Demonstrates working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance ManagementSystems (CMMS). Utilizes tablet and desktop computer systems to monitor, adjustand trouble systems and to track and report work progress.
* Must be able to read and understand plans, blueprints and schematicsrelated to HVAC
and refrigeration systems.
* Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
* High School graduate/GED
* Must be able to communicate orally, read, comprehend, write, reason andanalyze and perform calculations
* Must be able to bend, sit, squat, stand, crawl, walk, climb, push/pull,kneel, handle objects (manual dexterity), reach above shoulder level and usefine finger movements.
* Must be able to lift over 50 pounds.
* The employee will be subject to the following Environmental Conditionson the job:
o Exposure to excessive noise
o Will be around moving machinery
o Exposure to marked changes in temperature and/orhumidity
o Exposure to dust, fumes, gasses
o Will drive motorized equipment
o Will work in confined quarters with proper PPE
Preferred:
* EPA Universal Recovery License a plus
* Possession of an Electrical license or other trades licenses a plus
* Experience with and an understanding of Direct Digital Controls (DDC),Johnson Controls (Metasys) and/or Schneider (EcoStruxure) energy managementsystems preferred.
* Experience in a higher education environment a plus Must have a minimum of three (was five) years recent,full-time experience working for a licensed Contractor, or maintenanceorganization installing, repairing, testing, calibrating pneumatic and digitalcontrol systems.
