Indiana University seeks a university director of Career Development and Work-Based Learning within the university-wide Office of the Vice President for Student Success (OVPSS). The OVPSS portfolio is both the strategic home for student success initiatives, as well as a collaborative partner for campus-based student success teams. Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Serves as a key member of the Office of the Vice President for Student Success Leadership team and leads/serves on other critical university-wide committees, task forces, and focus groups. Convenes the IU-wide Career Services Alliance. 
  • Provides leadership and strategic direction in the areas supporting career exploration, career advising, work-based learning and career development, and job search services across IU’s campuses. 
  • Creates and implements student-ready initiatives that address the career-related needs of all student populations. 
  • Collaborates with and convenes campus partners and communities of practice to develop, implement and assess student-centered and national best practices that enhance the career readiness of students across IU.
  • Reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Navigation and Support within the office of the Vice President for Student Success. 
  • Acts as direct partner to the director of Academic Support Services and Training. 
  • Leads the creation and development of comprehensive strategic initiatives to address career related needs for all students. 
  • Provides vision, leadership, and direction for university-wide efforts to increase impact of career development work for students.  Works with VPSS leadership and campus colleagues to develop trainings, professional development series, educational programs and workshops for career services professionals.
  • Provides leadership in the development of direct partnerships with academic advising/advisors on campuses, in support of integrated career and academic advising
  • Provides collaborative leadership of staff who focus on career-related work across IU campuses including convening the IU-wide Career Services Alliance
  • Establishes and maintain communication with all campus constituencies regarding career-related best practices.

General Responsibilities

  • Contributes on senior leadership teams to formulate strategic planning and the highest-level operational objectives for career services areas.
  • Establishes long-term business plans and long-term strategic objectives.
  • Directs leadership staff who provide supervision to career services teams.
  • Responsible for escalated operational issues, including human resources and/or people management situations.
  • Drives innovation and excellence within the area of career services; reviews and creates policies and procedures.
  • Determines overall budget for career services teams; reviews and approves financial proposals from direct reporting leaders; has significant fiscal responsibilities that require frequent interaction with executive leaders.
  • Provides expertise and identifies grant and/or funding opportunities; develops business relationships across the university and externally.
  • Stays up-to-date on new career services standards, technologies, policies, and procedures and works collaboratively with other career services leaders across departments and/or campuses in determining standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures; ensures the adoption and implementation by direct reporting leaders.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, counseling, or related field

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in related field

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 5 years in career services, business, human resources, counseling, or related field
  • 3 years of management experience in related field

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. $90,000 – $100,000 per year based on experience
