The duration of the internship is for three (3) Months with a possibility of extension to six (6) months. This internship is UNPAID in person and full-time (35 hours per week), on the United Nations premise working arrangement from (New York, USA). This internship is designed to be full-time and in-person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate to part-time (20 hours per week) and/or remote. This internship is located in the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT) of the United Nations Office of Counter Terrorism at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) was established by the General Assembly in June 2017 (A/RES/71/291). The Office has five main functions: (a) provide leadership on the General Assembly counter-terrorism mandates across the United Nations System; (b) enhance coordination and coherence across the 45 Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force entities to ensure the balanced implementation of the four pillars of the Strategy; (c) strengthen the delivery of United Nations counter-terrorism capacity- building assistance to Member States; (d) improve visibility, advocacy and resource mobilization for United Nations counter-terrorism efforts; and (e) ensure that due priority is given to counter-terrorism across the United Nations System and that the important work on preventing violent extremism is firmly rooted in the UN Global Strategy. The overall aim of the Centre is to support Member States in the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy through capacity building. This internship is offered within UNOCT/UNCCT’s Global Programme on Prosecution, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (PRR), which provides technical assistance to Member States in the development and implementation of comprehensive and tailored prosecution, rehabilitation and reintegration strategies for individuals whom they have reasonable grounds to believe are terrorists, including foreign terrorist fighters, and their accompanying family members, in accordance with international law. The Global Programme on PRR is required to monitor and evaluate all of its capacity building activities, to understand the extent to which they have made a difference to Member States and to inform continuous improvement of activities. The intern will work under the supervision of the Unit Chief of the Global Programme on PRR and the Monitoring & Evaluation Specialist for the Global Programme on PRR. The internship is for a period of six months. The internship is unpaid. The internship is full-time (35 hours per week). The internship may be carried out remotely, in-person, or hybrid. Responsibilities Daily responsibilities focus on programme development, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation related to counter-terrorism, with a specific focus on PRR, including: • Conduct desktop research and analysis on relevant topics. • Contribute to the development of data collection tools (survey instruments, interview discussion guides etc) for specific activities under the Global Programme on PRR. • Support data collection, including through setting up online surveys and scheduling interviews with key stakeholders. • Conduct basic data analysis in Excel, with training and support from the M&E Specialist if required. • Assist in the preparation of reporting, including comprehensive evaluation reports, results snapshots and presentations. • Participate in meetings and conferences, as appropriate, and draft the respective notes, summaries and reports. • Perform other tasks, as required.
