Functional Responsibilities

Purpose and scope of the allocation

The structural engineering specialist will be the main advisor regarding his specialty for the project manager.

The main functions that the engineer will perform in geotechnics will be linked to the services provided by UNAPs in the infrastructure area, which can include the following activities:

Review designs and technical specifications of infrastructure works (foundations, contentions, tunnels or others), from the perspective of the geotechnical specialty.The objective is to ensure its consistency and integrity, in accordance with the best engineering practices, and current national regulations.

Identify and suggest improvements in designs, budgets, schedules, technical solutions and execution methods.

Technical advice in the various phases of bidding processes that involve designs, execution or supervision of infrastructure works: elaboration of terms of reference or technical specifications, responses to consultations of bidder potentials, advice A, or participation in, offers for the evaluation of offers, technical advice for the writing of works contracts or supervision of works.

Specialized technical analysis of geotechnical design reports, in order to verify compliance with the conditions established in the contracts signed with third parties and applicable regulations.

Specialized participation in advice according to their specialty, in the execution of infrastructure projects, including the evaluation of reports, supervision, address, approval of certificates and work receptions.

Decision making about what type of analysis perform in slope stability, and make them to advise the project manager at cutting angles, use of berms and other related elements.

Technical support specialized in the stage of preparation of project proposals, including the identification and management of geotechnical studies and designs as well as in the selection of technical teams for the implementation of infrastructure projects including the elaboration of terms of reference, support in interviews, selection process, among others.

Provide support in the preparation and management of geotechnical exploration campaigns for the design of new or complementary works.Within the recommendations, the type and amount of geotechnical essays required, as well as the interpretation of results or review of interpretations carried out by others, must be specified.

Make technical visits, prior coordination with the Project Manager (both in the study and work phase), when necessary.

Support in the resolution of controversies generated during the constructive stage, related to its specialty.

Prepare and deliver the corresponding reports to your management that include methodology, results, conclusion and recommendations.

Provide any other technical advice that the project manager requests within the scope of its specialization.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:

University Degree Title (equivalent to Master’s Degree) in geotechnics is required.

Title will be accepted university degree degree (equivalent to Bachelor Degree) in civil engineering, construction or related areas, as long as a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience is credited.

Work experience:

A minimum of 5 years of experience (or more according to academic credentials) is required in the realization of geotechnical studies applied to different types of infrastructure works in Costa Rica.

Incorporated into the Federated College of Engineers and Architects of Costa Rica (CFIA).

Infrastructure project experience in Latin American countries and the Caribbean is desirable

Languages:

Spanish language mastery is required

Services Retention Contract (Retainer):This contract is established in the Retainer contract modality, that is, an estimated number of days to work during the period is established.The supervisor will call to work the contractor only the necessary days and will be paid only for the days worked.
