Expected duration
The internships are envisaged for a period up to 6 months with various start dates throughout 2026. The internships are UNPAID and full-time; i.e. 5 days per week (40 hours). Selected interns will work under the supervision of a designated staff member within the team or project corresponding to the workstream for which they applied. Based on individual requirements and on a case-by-case consideration, internships can be virtual, with interns serving from their country of residence. Duties and Responsibilities
The Human Resources Management Service (HRMS) within the Division for Management (DM) of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is offering internship opportunities across five key workstreams: WORKSTREAM 1
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION); Be computer literate in standard software applications including MS Office 365: MS Word, OneDrive, SharePoint, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Forms, etc.); Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. For these particular positions, studies in the field of Business Administration, Human Resources, Education, Communications, Social Sciences, Humanities or other related degrees would be desirable. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the positions advertised, fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency, is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
