The internships are envisaged for a period up to 6 months with various start dates throughout 2026. The internships are UNPAID and full-time; i.e. 5 days per week (40 hours). Selected interns will work under the supervision of a designated staff member within the team or project corresponding to the workstream for which they applied. Based on individual requirements and on a case-by-case consideration, internships can be virtual, with interns serving from their country of residence. Duties and Responsibilities

The Human Resources Management Service (HRMS) within the Division for Management (DM) of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is offering internship opportunities across five key workstreams: WORKSTREAM 1

• LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT The Talent Development Team (TDT) implements the Organization’s learning and development policy at Headquarters and UNODC field offices, supporting continuous staff development as a key investment for achieving UN mandates. Responsibilities include:
• Conduct independent projects involving research, drafting training proposals, and preparing presentations on learning and development topics.
• Prepare training-related statistics and other data from existing databases.
• Support the preparation and delivery of training workshops and meetings, including scheduling, material preparation, registration management, participant communication, and hosting webinars via Microsoft Teams.
• Assist in administering the UN Language Programme in Vienna, including maintaining student records, managing registrations, producing statistical reports, monitoring payments, and compiling end-of-semester evaluation results.
• Contribute to outreach activities such as training needs analyses, client satisfaction surveys, course evaluations, and updating content on the Client Support Portal.
• Support marketing initiatives by designing communication materials such as brochures, flyers, guides, and manuals.
• Perform other duties to support the team as needed. WORKSTREAM 2
• INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME/ADMINISTRATION The Planning, Contracting & Reporting Unit”s executes organizational design and job classification, HR analytics, engagement of affiliate personnel and oversees the UNOV/UNODC Internship Programme. Responsibilities include:
• Supporting the UNOV/UNODC Internship Programme, including reviewing onboarding documents, preparing welcome materials, and coordinating with relevant teams;
• Acting as a liaison between HRMS and internship supervisors to facilitate communication and ensure timely processing of agreements;
• Assisting with the preparation and issuance of internship agreements and completion certificates;
• Drafting and formatting internal communications, reports, and meeting summaries with clarity and professionalism;
• Creating and maintaining tracking tools (e.g. Excel sheets) with various data and reporting on statistics;
• Updating and maintaining the internal HRMS calendar;
• Performing other administrative tasks and providing general support to the team, as required. WORKSTREAM 3
• COMMUNICATION The Office of the Chief in coordination with the Talent Development Team regularly update staff with on-going engagements at Headquarters and UNODC field offices, maintaining outreach via various platforms. Responsibilities include:
• Contributing to the preparation of HRMS monthly newsletter in SharePoint by drafting content, collecting inputs, and assisting with layout and formatting;
• Supporting with website layout and management in SharePoint;
• Preparing and sending regular email communications (e.g. reminders, updates, and announcements);
• Performing other administrative tasks and providing general support to the team, as required. WORKSTREAM 4
• DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Coordinator implements the Organization”s strategies on Gender Parity, Disability Inclusion and Geographical Diversity at Headquarters and UNODC Field Offices to ensure equal opportunities for everyone and strive towards a workforce which is as diverse as the people we serve. Responsibilities include:
• Support with and take responsibility according to your capacity on development, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives in the field of Gender Equality, Geographical Diversity, Disability Inclusion and other diversity dimensions;
• Creating content for internal communication to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in UNOV/UNODC;
• Planning and delivery of events to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in UNOV/UNODC;
• Development and delivery of training sessions (online and in person) on Diversity related topics. WORKSTREAM 5
• EMPLOYER BRANDING & OUTREACH The Staffing Team (ST) is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of strategies, policies, practices and innovative solutions in human resources management in the areas of talent management, staffing, roster management and outreach at UNOV/UNODC. Our interns are valued members of ST, contributing to impactful projects within UNOV/UNODC while gaining insight into the broader work of the United Nations Secretariat. The Employer Branding and Outreach intern will perform the following duties:
• Assist with planning, organizing, and running social media campaigns;
• Supports the design, execution, and evaluation of UNOV/UNODC branding and recruitment campaigns;
• Drafts, edits, and proofreads communications for key initiatives;
• Assists with creating engaging editorial, multimedia, and digital content for websites, social media, and newsletters;
• Supports development of concept plans for targeted outreach campaigns;
• Researches diverse issues using multiple sources; selects material, analyzes data, and presents findings;
• Keeps documentation inventory and contributes to continued record-keeping management;
• Support the review of project reports and summarizes key findings and lessons;
• Assist with the production of visually engaging presentations with analytical content. Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION); Be computer literate in standard software applications including MS Office 365: MS Word, OneDrive, SharePoint, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Forms, etc.); Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. For these particular positions, studies in the field of Business Administration, Human Resources, Education, Communications, Social Sciences, Humanities or other related degrees would be desirable. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the positions advertised, fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency, is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
