Position Summary:
This is a part-time internship position with American Bird Conservancy (ABC). American Bird Conservancy is a fast-growing, results-focused nonprofit seeking employees with an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to make a difference for birds and their habitats throughout the Americas. Inspired by the wonder of birds, ABC achieves lasting results for the bird species most in need while also benefiting human communities, biodiversity, and the planet’s fragile climate.
American Bird Conservancy’s Untreated Seed Pilot Program (USPP) is a key part of our efforts to understand the forces surrounding availability of seeds that do not have any neonicotinoid-insecticide coatings on them. This Internship is an exciting opportunity to join our energetic team and to make a difference for conservation.
The primary use of neonicotinoids – systemic insecticides so powerful that a single seed coated with them has enough active ingredient to kill a songbird – is as a seed coating. Our USPP provided financial incentives for growers to not use these products and reduce the overall environmental pesticide load. The USPP and this position are made possible by a gift from the OneHive Foundation.
The Untreated Seed Pilot Program Analysis Intern will be responsible for helping the Director of Government Relations to analyze documents and reports obtained during the initial phases of the USPP. The Intern will need to conduct outreach to program enrollees and partners to gather information. The Intern will organize, collate, analyze, and draw conclusions from the documents. The Intern will help the Director of Government Relations to synthesize all information into a series of accessible documents and may help in communicating findings.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who has an interest in wildlife conservation and is highly organized. The ideal candidate will be able to read through technical documents, receipts, invoices, and policy briefs with ease. The work required for this internship can be mostly performed outside of normal business hours, provided the Intern is able to meet regularly with key staff and relevant collaborators during normal business hours (9AM-5PM EST).
They will work collaboratively with the Director of Government Relations and Policy Team.
