Task Description
Under the supervision of the Communication Officer (Digital) NO-B, the National UN Volunteer will undertake the following functions: Social media management and analytics a. Assist in ideating, crafting, and publishing social media copy and content across UNICEF s social media platforms.
- Gather analytics periodically to inform planning and strategy.
- Responding to comments, private messages, and emails that come in on social media and the webkl email handle.
- Providing social media support to office initiatives and campaigns be it communication, programme or fundraising led as and when required.
- Assist in mentoring social media interns, freelancers and volunteers for communications as and when required.
Content creation
- Assist in writing and editing human interest stories, press releases, talking points, articles, scripts and other written materials.
- Assist in producing and designing content for social media such as factographs, infographs, and other materials that require simple design on Canva;
- Creating simple video content such as soundbites, event shorts, Social Media stories and Reels.
- Assist in managing videographers and agencies working on video and social media content together with the rest of the Communication Section team.
- Collect data on content success on social media platforms to aid in future strategizing.
- Uploading and refreshing communication and advocacy content on UNICEF Malaysia website as and when required.
- Assist Communication Section team members in events, launches, campaigns, and other key communication activities
- Adapt multimedia assets from HQ Division of Communication, Regional Office, or other UNICEF offices for the local audience.
- Assist in operationalizing advocacy and communication digital strategies via content to promote respect for children’s and women’s rights and support UNICEF’s mission in the country.
Nationality
Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.
- Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
- Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
- Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
- Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities. Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
- Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
- Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
Results/expected outputs:
- Efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to Communications and Advocacy results carried out by UNICEF.
- Increased programme visibility within community and amongst UNICEF partners, and increased integration within programmatic areas related to communication.
- Enhanced digital community building via social media.
- A final statement of achievements towards growing an engaged digital presence through communication and advocacy initiatives online.
Required Experience
- 3 years of experience in communication, social media, or digital content, at the national level
- Communication, experience with development and implementation of communication strategies;
- Proficiency in using computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite, email/internet, other IT applications), including design software and applications such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and social media content creation tools (Instagram, Facebook). o Knowledgeable in Google analytics, native social media analytics.
- Experience in using Drupal CMS an advantage.
- Skills and technical competence in producing materials and outputs for various media formats: print, web, social media Should be able to read, write and communicate fluently in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Reading, writing and communicating effectively in additionally, one or more local languages is an asset.

- Bachelor degree or equivalent in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Marketing or similar

- As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.
Benefits and Entitlements: The purpose of the allowances and entitlements paid to UN Volunteers is to enable UN Volunteers to sustain a secure standard of living at the duty stations in line with United Nations standards without incurring personal costs. The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward, or salary in exchange for the UN Volunteer’s service. Contingent on specific eligibility criteria, location of the volunteer assignment and contractual type and category, the payment of allowances will begin from the date of Commencement of Service.
- Monthly living Allowance (per month) is around MYR 4185.83
- Entry Lump Sum (one-time payment) USD 400
- Exit Allowance (for each month served paid on completion of assignment) MYR 348.82

Leave entitlements:
- Annual leave: 2.5 days accrued per calendar month
- Certified sick leave: 30 days
- Uncertified Sick Leave: 7 days
- Learning leave: 10 working days per consecutive 12 months
- Maternity Leave: 16 weeks
- Paternity Leave: 10 days
