Duties and Responsibilities
Within the area of operations the Regional Office, the UNVMC Intern will assist in a support capacity, with the issue of the implementation of the peace agreement in urban contexts: Conducting research: Contribute to improving understanding of how the 2016 Peace Agreement is being implemented in urban contexts, including Bogota, Ibague and Neiva. Gathers, selects and analyses information regarding peace implementation in urban settings. Identify best practices at national and international level. Monitoring and reporting: Monitor and evaluate initiatives that have been implemented in urban settings referring to the previsions of the 2016 Peace Agreement. Prepare reports and identify opportunities to promote a better implementation of the Peace Agreement in urban contexts. Engagement and networking: Assist in liaising with local authorities, former combatants, victims’ association and representatives from implementing agencies in undertaking interviews and collecting information regarding urban implementation. Envisioned Project or Activity: In order to carry out this project, the UNVMC intern will assist in revising the status and activities related to the implementation of the Peace Agreement in urban settings, specially in Bogota, Ibague and Neiva. He/she will work to identify best practices, at international and national level, and highlight opportunities to bring on board stakeholders and enhance peace implementation in the cities. Information from local authorities, implementing agencies, UN entities, academy and civil society is essential to understand what has been carried out. Thus, the intern will be expected to carry out interviews and may need to carry out field missions to obtain information from other cities such as Ibague and Neiva.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must be enrolled in a Master’s degree and have completed a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Interested candidates must be pursuing their degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, Development, International Relations, law or a related field to this Internship Job Opening. However, your training, education, advanced course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your Internship. Applicants must be enrolled in a Master’s degree and have completed a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Interested candidates must be pursuing their degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, Development, International Relations, law or a related field to this Internship Job Opening. Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams). Knowledge of statistical software and data visualization software (Power BI) is desirable. Ability to gather/analyze information, conduct research and interact with a wide range of actors, which may include civil society, and academia is required. Must have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Must have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this Internship, working knowledge in both Spanish and English is required.
