Located in the fastest-growing region of the state, the University of North Georgia is a multi-campus university with an enrollment of nearly 20,000 students, making it one of the largest institutions in the University System of Georgia. UNG is focused on a mission of educational excellence, leadership development and community engagement opportunities that develop students into leaders for a diverse and global society. Through a variety of educational pathways that provide access and range from certificates and associate degrees to a professional doctoral program, UNG is responsive to regional education and economic development needs. Federally designated as a senior military college, one of the university’s signature leadership programs is its 800-member Corps of Cadets on UNG’s Dahlonega Campus.

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for Temporary Summer Residential Advisors. Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families; and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.

The Upward Bound (UB) program hosts a 6-week Summer Institute each year. For three-weeks, UB participants will live on UNG’s Dahlonega campus, attending academic and cultural classes designed to provide educational and cultural experiences. Upward Bound Summer Residential Advisors (SRA) are responsible for the well-being of UB students.  Counseling, academic tutoring, and various types of supervision are all facets of this responsibility. During the UBSI 3-week residential component (except for weekends) the SRA is expected to keep close contact with the students in all aspects of community life. The SRA lives in the dorm among students and takes on the roles of teacher, counselor, and mentor. The SRA enforces program rules and codes of behavior and is expected to respond to loud noises and nighttime emergencies. SRAs should report serious breaches of program rules to the proper administrator. SRAs must sleep and reside in the program’s dormitory and be available for nighttime emergencies as well. SRA’s will also travel out-of-state for 1 week with participants during the college and cultural tour. Mandatory training will be during the week of May 27th.  The tentative dates for the residential component are June 9th – July 12th, 2024.  Compensation: $2,500 stipend as well as meals and room/board
