9 weeks, June 17th – August 16th 2024 – 30hrs/week  – 17$/hr

 

As part of the Canada Summer Jobs program, we have the opportunity to welcome 6 young people as assistants in 5 Depot programs. Visit our website to find the position that suits you! 

 

Do you like working outside? Do you want to learn about Urban Agriculture, and how to grow fruits and vegetables? Join the Urban Agriculture Team!

 

Our urban agriculture programs build and maintain vegetable gardens around NDG and the greater Montreal area. We work with community members to grow vegetables and fruits to improve the quality and quantity of fresh produce consumed by families and individuals in our neighborhood.

 

What we are offering: 

  • Learn how to take care of seedlings, manage different compost systems,  prepare garden produce,  apply ecological gardening techniques etc;
  • Work outside during the summer in a friendly and dynamic team, and have the opportunity to connect with other youth to discover other activities around the Depot.

 

Responsibilities / Tasks:

  • Help the Urban Agriculture team plant, maintain and harvest vegetable gardens; 
  • Keep journals about the progress of gardens throughout the season, and help with light administrative tasks.

 

Qualifications:

  • In good physical shape, able to stand for several hours at a time, able to carry heavy loads. 
  • Ability to move around NDG on bicycle is an asset (we can provide one if needed); 
  • Comfortable interacting with participants of different backgrounds in a positive and friendly way;
  • Comfortable speaking and reading French and/or English (additional language an asset)

Eligibility and working conditions: 

  • This position is offered through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Link to the Eligibility Criterias.
  • Supervisor: Kristen Perry (Urban Agriculture Manager).
  • Workplace: NDG (Montreal)
  • Schedule:  Monday through Friday, including some evenings, exact schedule to be determined.
