Urban Forestry Coordinator

This position entails statewide responsibilities to develop and administer all aspects of Oklahoma Forestry Services’ (OFS) urban and community forestry (UCF) program.  The successful applicant will provide and execute long term vision for the program’s success by increasing the awareness of the importance of Oklahoma’s urban and community tree canopies; representing Oklahoma’s UCF interests on a national scale; serving as the state administrator of the Tree City, Campus, and Utility USA programs; administering a growing budget of federal funds; and supporting the agency’s emergency response and incident management obligations.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in forestry.  At least three years of substantial experience in urban forestry, forest management, and/or forest health.  Work must show increasingly responsible, professional, post-graduate forestry work, including at least two years of specialized experience in urban forestry.

Supervisory and administrative experience is required.  Practical experience in horticulture, landscape architecture, landscape design, arboriculture, public administration, education, and/or land use planning is desirable and will be critically evaluated.  Must possess demonstrable skills in leadership, planning, organization, and communication.  Must possess an understanding of UCF issues.  A general knowledge of Oklahoma Forestry Services is important and, more broadly, the important role state agencies have in successful local UCF programming.
