GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wildlife Conservation Program manages all species in Texas that are not hunted, which comprises approximately 95% of the wildlife in Texas. Under the direction of the Urban Wildlife Biologists, this part-time employee will have the opportunity to participate in multiple components of the Dallas/Fort Worth Urban Wildlife Program.  The employee will be working with a biologist to conduct wildlife research such establishing and monitoring trail cameras, assisting with citizen science programs, preparing technical reports and outreach materials, accompanying the biologist on field investigations, and assisting with environmental outreach. Duties will include fieldwork for research projects and assisting with urban wildlife outreach, urban land conservation and management projects, and other duties as assigned.

NOTE (2): The competitive applicant will have worked or volunteered on projects involving non-game wildlife and/or plants, will be familiar with native Texas wildlife species, and will have a strong desire to work with nongame species. Knowledge and experience of wild bird handling and banding and using trail cameras is desirable but not required.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree or higher within the last 6 months.

Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application.

Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or “Pass” on a Pass/Fail system.

Experience:

None required.

Licensure:

Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Current undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in Wildlife Science, Conservation Science, or Environmental Biology, Environmental Science or closely related Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program.

READ – IMPORTANT TRANSCRIPT REQUIREMENT:

A copy of a current college transcript, ISSUED FROM THE REGISTRAR with a signature and/or school watermark, must be attached to the application at time of submission. The transcript must show current GPA, credits, and current enrollment or recent graduation with a bachelor’s or higher degree. Graduation date must be December 2025 or more recent.

DEGREE PLANS OR GRADES FROM A STUDENT SELF-SERVICE PORTAL WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Omission of a transcript will be the basis for disqualification.
