ROLE SUMMARY

Specialty I&I Medical Affairs colleagues are experts with a deep knowledge of I&I medicines and the Inflammation & Immunology therapeutic area. I&I physicians and other health care professionals and stakeholders view them as peers, and I&I colleagues as partners. In Specialty I&I Medical Affairs, we provide our customers with accurate and clinically relevant information about our medicines that help them make the right treatment decisions through data generation and dissemination and peer-to-peer interactions. We also generate actionable insights on our medicines and the evolving clinical reality and collaborate with our colleagues to ensure that they are reflected in I&I decisions and plans.

The US Senior Medical Director – I&I Strategy will report to the US Specialty Care Medical Lead. The Senior Medical Director will develop and work on an overarching Medical Affairs strategy in I&I integrating asset visions and strategies. The incumbent will work closely with the VP I&I Medical Lead and with the asset teams as well as with commercial for portfolio assets to identify the right tactics and strategies in support of development, launch and in- cycle management within existing disease areas and for new disease areas. The Senior medical director -I&I Strategy needs to show high level of scientific and technical product expertise as well as I&I area expertise and will benefit from an established and strong network of international KOLs in order to function as a peer and leader for medical affairs in developing this ambition. A key element of the work will be to identify and leverage synergies in Medical Affairs and common strategies across asset teams to allow the US medical team to work as efficiently as possible externally with HCPs or medical societies, internally as well as cross-functionally. Collaboration across functions, creativity, solution-orientation and leadership skills are key criteria for a successful candidate while showing strong ability to prioritize and focus strategies based on specific asset requirements. These strategies will support Pfizer´s vision to be a highly trusted partner that is providing breakthroughs to its customers.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The US Senior Medical Director – I&I will partner cross-functionally with medical teams, health economics and outcomes research and market access functions, legal, compliance and commercial teams to execute activities supporting I&I I&I.The successful candidate will be an integral member of the US Medical I&I community. He/She will have to support strongly the US medical I&I team, the medical affairs activities and tactics of the respective asset teams. At the same time, he/she has to partner effectively with commercial, PHI, GPD, corporate affairs for strong alignment and an integrated approach for the overarching I&I strategy. The incumbent will guide, coach and work closely with GLocal medical affairs colleagues on Pfizer´s Medical Affairs I&I strategy. The US Senior Medical Director – I&I Strategy may represent the Team Leader/VP at important internal and external meetings when this is appropriate and required.

The US Senior Medical Director – I&I Strategy will:

  • Develop, lead and execute for medical affairs an aligned and integrated strategy that supports the asset and disease areas and at the same time establishes us as partner in I&I community externally
  • Work closely and building strong relationship with cross-functional teams in support of the I&I portfolio
  • Lead the conversation and ideation of the right medical affairs strategies in support of the assets.
  • Generate jointly and support from medical affairs perspective overarching Medical I&I strategies and tactics
  • Lead collaborative research partnerships and strategy for independent Pfizer sponsored research
  • Initiate and support I&I activities to strengthen the Medical I&I strategy
  • Demonstrate deep data and disease area expertise for, in their respective indications as well as for new potential development areas in I&I for our portfolio
  • Lead and implement medical insight generation activities, understanding the external customer perspectives through peer-to-peer interactions, data/facts/observations from field medical and advisory board meetings.
  • Lead and develop data interpretation and alignment activities with internal and external partners to inform decision making and to support development of educational activities, medical strategies and tactics.
  • Support development and execution of internal medical training curriculum around asset data and relevant disease area content in collaboration with I&I Medical Affairs Capabilities group
  • Manage and execute internal I&I I&I Medical Affairs or cross-functional strategy meetings and workshops to develop future strategies for the I&I assets and portfolio.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

  • MD required and 5+ years’ relevant experience
  • Strong strategic mindset and proven track record of implementing a robust medical plan to support the overarching brand strategy.
  • Strong medical affairs experience at different organizational levels required.
  • Demonstrated executional capabilities and leadership with authority in prior medical affairs roles
  • Proven track record of ability to work and partner successfully with cross-functional colleagues in a matrix team setting across countries and internationally with diverse colleagues and cultures
  • Very strong communications and peer-to-peer relationship building capacity and ability to listen, understand and integrate country and local needs
  • Fluency in written and spoken English required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive I&I Medical Affairs experience at US and/or international level preferred
  • Profound experience with launch brands in I&I and with current market dynamics in the disease area of Atopic dermatitis and alopecia areata preferred

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $226,200.00 to $377,000.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 25.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
