Overview of position |
Need Statement:
The Ministry of Energy and Water’s Surface Water Resources Department (SWRD) is tasked with conducting extensive studies, advanced data analysis, and improving the database system to develop a water information management system. Identifying capacity gaps in surface water modelling, river sediment analysis, hydrology monitoring, and water information management, the SWRD, therefore, a Hydrology Specialist is required to contribute expertise in hydrological modelling and relevant analyses. The execution of these plans receives additional support through financial assistance from UNICEF.
The Hydrology Specialist will focus on hydrological modelling, conducting analyses based on hydrological and Metrological information, and contribute to enhancing water resource management. The position requires expertise in time-series analysis, trend analysis of Hydro-Mate parameters, remote sensing for mountain hydrology, GIS, and various hydrology modelling approaches.
Objective:
To conduct extensive studies, advanced data analysis, and improving the database system to develop a comprehensive water information management system.

•Time-series analysis and applying it to water resources management Conducted.

•Practical proficiency in GIS and hydrology modelling (including Lamped, Semi, and fully distributed models) for hydrological assessments demonstrated.
•Water resources reports, including assessments of water availability in each watershed, precipitation, water regimes, and air temperature patterns over different periods generated.
•Analysed precipitation and preparing IDF-Curves report for each watershed and year.
•Estimated surface water potential, water forecast, and water availability in the basins for each watershed.
•Analysed water balance and Analysis on surface flow regimes and surface water deficits in each river basin.
•Conducted thorough analysis of river sediment composition and characteristics.
•Assessed sediment transport patterns and their impact on water quality and infrastructure.
•Provided insights and recommendations for effective sedimentation management strategies.

Key competencies |
•Master’s or PhD in Water Resources, Hydrology, Environmental Engineering.
•Minimum of 5 years of experience in water resources, hydrology, or related fields.
•Strong analytic and reporting skills with proficiency in English and one of the national languages.
•Ability to present complex technical problems clearly.
•Timely delivery of assigned tasks.
•Strong oral and written communication skills in national languages and English.
