Overview of position | -
Under the overall supervision of the Senior Emergency & Preparedness Coordinator, the Head of Sub Office & direct supervision of Field Operations Coordinator (EPC) & in collaboration with relevant units in EPC, the Senior Operations Assistant will be responsible & accountable to undertake internal & external coordination at field level for emergency responses. -
The selected candidate will be coordinating the emergency response with area based coordination forum under the operational cell. The position will be responsible to act as point contact in the district for our clients operations during emergency operations. |
Role objectives | Field operations: -
Assist in the coordination of our clients emergency response in the district by working closely with the Field Operations Coordinator, the Prgram Managers, the Head of Sub Office & field staff. -
Keep abreast with the changes & ensure relevant information is being shared with all colleagues. -
Establish clear objectives between the teammates & monitor progress & performance of the response. Area based coordination: -
Co lead the area based coordination cell in area of responsibility. -
Work closely with other key members of the operational cell at both district & national levels including UN organizations, INGO’s & NGO’s, local authorities. -
Coordinate district level responses being undertaken by operational cell members by securing commitments from humanitarian actors, identifying overlaps, gaps in services & providing feedback to the operational cell. -
Help implement contingency plans based on planning figures & the responses being carried out by operational cell members are integrated & multi sectorial. -
Support both multi sectoral needs assessments & use existing secondary data to inform sector response planning. -
Ensure that information is shared amongst the operational cell members & that this information is made available to all members to improve planning, integration & implementation. -
Facilitate clear & effective communication between the field actors & Operational Cell Coordinators. -
Organize & lead regular area based coordination meetings, prepare meeting minutes & identify key action points for follow up with relevant colleagues. -
Undertake any other responsibilities assigned. |

Key competencies | -
University degree in political or social science, business administration, international relations, human rights, law or any other related field from an accredited academic institution with 4 years of relevant professional experience or high school diploma in the above fields with 6 years of relevant professional experience. -
Prior experience of working within cluster coordination at national or district level. -
Previous experience in emergency responses is essential. -
Demonstrable ability to work & represent views across different stakeholders taking part in the emergency response. -
Experience of high level coordination & chairing of meetings. -
Demonstrable understanding of international humanitarian response & coordination mechanisms. -
Understanding of opportunities to provide integrated or cross cutting humanitarian interventions with other sectors & clusters. -
Understanding of opportunities to support the world humanitarian summit agenda such as localization & development humanitarian nexus. -
Strong organizational, planning & communication skills. -
Excellent writing skills & speaking in terms of language & analysis. -
Ability to work independently against tight deadlines. -
Strong collaboration skills with colleagues from different backgrounds. -
Fluency in English & Somali (oral & written) is required. -
