JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Forester and Invasive Plant Management Technician, the Vegetation Management Technician performs functions related to invasive plant management, and providing general assistance to the Forester, Invasive Plant Management Technician, and Real Estate Manager on a variety of land use issues. This position entails 1000 hours of field work related to an expected grant. This includes identifying, cataloging, and eradicating invasive plants on his/her own and in coordination with the Forester and Invasive Plant Management Technician. Coordination with the Forester will be most important to prevent the spread of invasive species into newly disturbed areas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Inventory areas, especially future and current timber harvests, for invasive plants and tree species and stocking levels.
- Document presence of invasive species.
- Prescribe preemptive and reactive actions to prevent the spread of invasive plant species.
- Work independently and cooperatively to remove invasive plants with power equipment and hand tools.
- Coordinate with Authority staff and outside vendors to address (remove, treat, etc.) larger invasive plant populations
- Assitg with timber sale layout and firewood program administration.
- Maintain a working knowledge of Authority’s Land Use Plan.
- Prepare reports as necessary to communicate work activities.
- Perform responsibilities in accordance with the Authority’s safety procedures.
- Support other departments and divisions within the Authority as called-for.
- Perform special assignments as assigned.
- Other duties as necessary to accomplish the strategic initiatives, mission, vision and values of the Authority.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Educational Requirement:
Bachelors or Associates degree as noted herein. Those holding a bachelors degree in environmental studies, forestry, natural resources, and the sciences will be given a preference for hiring over those holding other bachelors degrees. Experience in the job responsibilities noted above may be counted towards years of education beyond the Associates degree level.
Experience/Skills/Abilities:
- Botanical identification skills
- Map reading experience required
- GIS experience required
- GPS experience required
- Natural resources experience preferred
- Chainsaw experience preferred
- Herbicide experience preferred – State pesticide supervisory license for rights-of-way preferred.
- Physical fitness as requied to perform field work
