Duration: Up to 240 days until 31 March 2025. The project runs on a pre-planned deployment schedule with regular RnR breaks.

Rate: £250-270 per day (Approximately £60-£65,000 over contract period)

About the Role

ARK is implementing the Lebanese Armed Forces National Security Assistance Programme 2022-2025. The project provides support to sustain and enhance capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) to maintain stability and provide effective, accountable, security across Lebanon, particularly along the land border with Syria and around flashpoint areas. In 2021 the UK Government donated 100 Land Rover RWMiks to the LAF and this role is specifically to provide support to the LAF to maintain the operability of these vehicles. The role would be suitable for a British Army veteran, in particular those with a SNCO/Warrant Officer REME Vehicle Mechanic background. Candidates with similar experiences are also eligible to apply.

This Consultancy serves three key purposes: 1) To be the senior subject matter expert for Land Rover, RWMik and Defender mentoring, to provide regular written reports, verbal updates, respond to RFIs and carry out all tasks as directed by the BTAT Operations Manager. 2) Provide expert advice and mentoring for the Land Rover, RWMik and Defender-Operation, maintenance including – planning, measuring effect and operator training. 3) Support incoming visits from the client and other stakeholders.

Key Deliverables

Mentoring support:

• LAF Unit S4 & Transport Officers

• Support development of LAF, providing expert advice on the RWMiK and Land Rover Defender.

Written work & reporting:

• Production of weekly report (to include supporting photos)

• Production of SME input for Quarterly Reports

• Deploy for 3 x days & nights per week to LAF Unit. 1 x Day to be spent report writing at ARK Office/HQ BTAT

• Provide verbal briefs for VIPs Visits as directed

• Support and answer RFIs as directed

• Support of all Land Rover, Defender and RWMik Operational Vignettes

Liaison:

• Key Leadership Engagement (KLE) with LAF Unit S4s and Commanders

• BTAT Operations Manager

• BTAT Training Officer

Requirements

The successful candidate is likely to be a former SNCO/Warrant Officer Vehicle Mechanic who is comfortable operating in arduous environments and enjoys the challenge of mentoring and may have experience in a training and advisory role with host nation partners. The candidate must have demonstrable expertise on the Land Rover RWMik platform and is looking for a role, where their technical VM skills will be used alongside soft skills to build rapport and develop trust with LAF officers. They must have a positive attitude, be a team player, and be able to deal with uncertainty. A natural problem solver with excellent leadership skills.

Essential:

• Demonstrable experience as a Vehicle Mechanic on the Land Rover RWMik platform

• Experience working within a military context, comfortable with military culture, structures, rank system and operating systems

• Ability to brief clearly to senior leadership and to provide mentoring to soldiers and J/SNCOs.

• Training and mentoring experience

Desirable:

• Experience working in the Middle East and alongside Middle Eastern Army units

• Basic Arabic language skills, understanding of the culture, or an interest in developing these.
