Northern Arizona University’s Center for Service and Volunteerism is currently recruiting for a Verde Monuments Area Coordinator to be placed at the Verde Valley National Monuments for a summer (5/11 – 7/31) internship. The Environmental Literacy Corps (ELC) AmeriCorps program addresses environmental issues across Arizona and helps build resilience in communities throughout the state through education, outreach, and volunteer coordination projects. 

The Verde Valley area is fortunate to have three archaeological National Park Service monuments to explore, including Montezuma Castle, Montezuma Well, and Tuzigoot National Monuments. Position Title: Verde Monuments Area Coordinator  

Slot Type:  ​​Minimum Time​ AmeriCorps – 300​ total hours

25 hours per week for 12 total weeks

5/11/26 to 7/31/26 

Reports To: Paul Santellan  

Location: 527 S Main St, Camp Verde, AZ 86322  

Primary Function/Purpose: This position would provide work similar to a GS04 Park Guide.  

Major Responsibilities and Duties:  

  • Provide excellent customer service at park visitor centers, including welcoming visitors, offering directions and maps.
  • Provide informal interpretation of primary interpretive themes while roving trails and assisting in the visitor center to include environmental education.
  • Induct youth participants into the Junior Ranger program by discussing the geology, wildlife, and cultural aspects of the park and awarding participants with a badge once they take the pledge to leave no trace.
  • Create engaging social media content.
  • Collaborate with valued partners including Western National Parks.
  • Assist biologists and/or archeologists with field work and data collection.
  • Assist Park Rangers in Ranger Talks and other educational programming about the Monuments.
  • Educate community members of all ages about the cultural and natural history of the Monuments during classroom visits, webinars, and community events.

 Qualifications:  

  • AmeriCorps members must be U.S. Citizens, U.S. National. or Legal Permanent Residents
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interest in environmental education
  • Commitment to complete full term as AmeriCorps member
  • Criminal History check required and selection for the position is contingent upon review of results of the check
