Veterinarian-Mosul

The Veterinarian will be responsible for ensuring the health, productivity, and welfare of livestock in the project’s target areas. This includes providing veterinary care, disease prevention, and capacity-building activities with local farmers and animal health workers. The role is vital in supporting livestock-dependent households to enhance food security, economic stability, and resilience in vulnerable communities. The position holder will responsible for project planning, implementation and reporting, including coordination with local authorities , communities , registration and selection of beneficiaries and completion of project according to set goals and objectives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Animal Health and Veterinary Care

• Provide preventive and curative veterinary care to livestock, including vaccinations, treatments, and parasite control.
• Develop and implement disease surveillance and control strategies, including responding to disease outbreaks in the project area.
• Advise on best practices in animal health management, breeding, nutrition, and overall welfare of livestock.

• Capacity Building and Training

  • Train and supervise local animal health workers, para-veterinarians, and community members on basic veterinary care, disease identification, and treatment techniques.
  • Organize and conduct workshops for farmers on livestock husbandry practices, focusing on health, productivity, and resilience.
  • Develop training materials tailored to the needs of local communities and adapted to the project’s specific objectives.

  Project Implementation Support

  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of veterinary and livestock-related interventions as part of the project.
  • Assist in livestock distribution or restocking activities by assessing animal health before delivery to beneficiaries.
  • Provide technical support and advice to the project team on veterinary and animal health issues.

  Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor the health status of livestock and ensure that veterinary interventions are effective.
  • Collect and analyze data related to animal health, disease outbreaks, mortality, and treatment outcomes.
  • Prepare and submit timely reports on veterinary activities, challenges, successes, and lessons learned.

  Coordination and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with local veterinary services, government authorities e.g. DOA, livestock department, NGOs, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the smooth implementation of veterinary and animal health activities and avoiding the duplication of services by reaching out new beneficiaries.
  • Participate in livestock health campaigns and emergency response efforts, including vaccination drives or quarantine management during disease outbreaks.
  • Maintain a close relationship with livestock owners, farmer cooperatives, and community groups to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.

  Emergency Response

  • Respond to livestock emergencies, such as disease outbreaks or natural disasters, by coordinating rapid veterinary interventions and mobilizing necessary resources.
  • Support emergency preparedness and contingency planning for livestock health crises.
