Established in 1904, the University of Leeds is one of the UK’s largest, most prestigious and diverse universities. Internationally renowned for the quality of our teaching and the excellence of our research, we are a member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities and one of the world’s top universities (QS World University ranking).

Based in the vibrant city of Leeds, our vision is to make a positive difference in the world by understanding our place, harnessing the expertise, creativity and commitment of staff and students and building on the themes of community, culture and impact. With an annual turnover of £985 million, more than 39,800 students and 9,000 staff, we are continuing to make investments in student education, research and innovation and extending our international reach. We have over 14,000 international students from 137 countries, and we strive to embed an international mindset across all aspects of our activity.

Our Council is now looking to appoint our next Vice-Chancellor and President. Building on established foundations, the new Vice-Chancellor and President will oversee the delivery of excellent education and student experience and the advancement of research that matters to the world, inspire an inclusive institutional culture, ensure financial and environmental sustainability, and ensure the fulfilment of our civic, national and international ambitions.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional individual to bring strategic vision and leadership to the University community and the achievement of our ambitions. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of: significant board-level leadership and management experience, gained in a comparably large, complex and international organisation; a visible and engaged leadership approach that engenders followership; and a demonstrable alignment with our core values of collaboration, compassion, inclusivity and integrity, alongside a personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
