Key opportunity for a VC Indigenous Doctoral Fellow to complete a PhD in the STEM field

Fixed-term contract for four years
Salary: Academic A-B (depending on level of experience) plus 17% super and flexible working
About the Role
The primary focus of the VC Indigenous Doctoral Fellow is to undertake research activities directed towards the completion of a PhD in line with the University’s research strategy.
It is expected that the VC Indigenous Pre-doctoral Fellow will meet all requisite PhD milestones as required during the course of the position and complete the their PhD within the four years appointment of this role.
There will be limited other functions associated with the position, which may include engagement activities, presentation of lectures and tutorials, assessment of students and course administration in line with the University’s quality assurance requirements. A maximum of 10% of workload is to be allocated to non-PhD related activity.
About You
To be successful for the appointment, you will have:
Aboriginality’ or ‘Must be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage’ is an ‘Essential Selection Criteria’
Appropriate academic background or equivalence to gain admission to PhD candidature.
Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment, including the demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues, project team leaders, and industry partners.
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.
Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills.

Note: This is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Designated Position, classified under ‘special measures’ of section 12 of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply. Proof of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage is required.
Appointment to this position is subject to passing and maintaining a Working with Children check. Other background checks will be carried out via our external provider CV check.
About the College
The School of Health and Biomedical Sciences comprises three Academic Clusters (Allied Health, Applied Health, and Biomedical Sciences). Primarily based at the RMIT Bundoora campus, the School undertakes teaching and research across ten disciplines: Chinese Medicine, Chiropractic, Exercise Science, Human Biosciences, Laboratory Medicine, Medical Radiations, Nursing, Osteopathy, Pharmacy and Psychology. The majority of the School’s programs include Work Integrated Learning as an intrinsic part of student learning both through placements in partner industries and through the University’s student led Health Sciences Clinic located at Bundoora’s University Hill.
The School has a strategic focus on chronic disease and integrative/preventative health care with cross-cutting themes of Indigenous Health, Exercise & Nutrition, Ageing in Health & Disease, and Medical Devices, Diagnostics and Prognostics. The School is internationally and nationally competitive in the clinical and biomedical sciences. Research within the School is supported by modern facilities and state-of-the-art equipment.
