The University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) is the first and only public, English-medium, and independent University in Iraq. The University was founded in 2006 by the current President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, His Excellency Nechirvan Barzani. It is dedicated to being the region’s leading centre of excellence in research and teaching and is committed to the dissemination and application of knowledge to further the industrial, economic, cultural, environmental and social development of the region.

Over the past fifteen years it has grown to over 2,200 students and there are around 180 staff.   UKH currently offers degrees across Business and Management Sciences, Political Sciences and International Relations, Pharmacy, Computer Science and Engineering, Natural Resource Engineering and Management, and Medicine. There are ambitions to develop more programmes.

The University is now seeking an outstanding and proactive individual with a strong background in university leadership and quality assurance to fill the post of Vice President (Academic Affairs). 

Reporting to the President, the successful candidate will provide leadership for the academic affairs of the University and be responsible for ensuring the implementation of the University’s academic vision and strategy. A key responsibility will be to ensure that the University’s processes for managing academic standards and the quality of student learning opportunities are fully implemented, and that these processes continue to develop to reflect best practice internationally. Working closely with the Deans and Academic Registrar, the postholder will have oversight of academic planning, programme development and the development of teaching, learning and assessment across UKH.

The successful candidate will have oversight of all local and international accreditation activity and take the lead on the University’s engagement with the QAA and other institutional and discipline-specific international accreditation bodies.

Strong candidates will have the drive and commitment to take a major role in this exciting next stage of the University’s development. Ideal candidates will be adaptable, detail-oriented, and have a demonstrable ability to lead change and an international outlook. They will be capable of overseeing a highly diverse portfolio of activities and will build effective and collaborative relationships in delivering academic cultural change.
