Position Summary
The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for
Vice President for Development.
Reporting to the University President, the Vice President for
Development serves as the chief development officer of the
University. The Vice President provides innovative and strategic
leadership in the planning, implementation, and administration of
the University’s comprehensive fund-raising efforts. The role
oversees Development, Alumni Engagement and Volunteer USI and
serves as President of the University of Southern Indiana
Foundation.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Provides visionary planning, organization and evaluation of all
fundraising activities within Development and the USI Foundation,
ensuring that short- and long-term goals and objectives are
achieved. - Participates in the University Strategic Planning process
including the identification of USI Foundation fundraising goals
and metrics to measure progress periodically. - Develops and executes plans for capital and comprehensive
campaigns in support of the University. - Serves as the President of the USI Foundation. Manages the USI
Foundation Board of Directors to ensure a robust philanthropic
network within constituent groups of the University, with emphasis
on alumni, while working closely with the Foundation Board Chair
and the Foundation’s standing committees—Nominating, Audit and
Finance Committee. - Serves as a member of President’s Cabinet and President’s
Council. - Oversees collaboration with Student Financial Assistance to
utilize AwardSpring scholarship and donor management software to
identify, offer and process student scholarships. - Provides strategic vision for Alumni Engagement and Volunteer
USI, implementing that vision through collaborative leadership of
the Alumni Council and its committees and chapters. - Collaborates with University leadership to determine
fundraising needs, priorities, and goals and serves as Chair of the
University’s Development Council. - Works closely with USI Foundation Accounting in the
identification and recording of gifts and required legal
documentation to ensure proper treatment to maintain
compliance. - Participates in USI Foundation annual external audits and risk
assessment process. Enhances donor and community relations by
representing the University and USI Foundation at various internal
and external events. - Furthers the attainment of established goals for the
Development and Alumni Engagement and Volunteer USI offices by
developing and maintaining cordial and professional working
relationships with University faculty, administrators, staff and
students. - Oversees communication of the status of current fundraising and
alumni engagement and volunteer activities to the USI community and
the general public. - Commitment and capacity to build and sustain philanthropic
relationships across diverse stakeholder groups including alumni,
donors and prospective donors while ensuring confidentiality. - Participates in all stages of fundraising, including
identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and
stewardship. - Secures leadership, major, and planned gifts for the USI
Foundation. - Serves as an advisor to the University President on all
fundraising and alumni engagement matters. - Under the direction of the President, works closely with the
Board of Trustees, serving as the main liaison for the fundraising
activities and programs for the University. - Supervises the Director of University Art Collections and
serves as Chair of the Art Collection Committee. - Serves as the liaison between the University and the USI
Retirees organization and its Coordinating Council. - Partners with external fundraising counsel when necessary.
- Recruits, motivates, coordinates and retains a strong staff
which maintains cooperative relationships between Development and
Alumni Engagement. - Enhances connections and giving for all stakeholders including,
USI alumni, students and the broader community. - Coordinates compliance as it relates to the identification and
documentation of conflict-of-interest statements for the USI
Foundation Board of Directors. - Provides leadership on special projects and programs assigned
by the University President. - Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of ten (10) years of
successful fundraising experience and leadership within a
professional fundraising organization required. - A proven record of success in fundraising, including directly
securing leadership gifts. - Proven experience and success in leading teams to fundraising
goals. - Demonstrated experience bringing to fruition successful
comprehensive capital campaigns. - Demonstrated commitment to fostering a culture of
collaboration, transparency and innovation. - Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Skilled in
proofreading and editing. - Organizational skills, particularly planning, managing
deadlines and evaluating progress. - Possesses strong attention to detail and follow through.
- Contemporary understanding and working knowledge of industry
best practices to enhance University philanthropic efforts. - Computer literacy and experience using fundraising
databases. - Valid driver’s license.
