for the position of Vice President for University
Advancement.
Christopher Newport University is an exceptional academic community
of 5,000 students. U.S. News and World Report consistently
ranks the university as one of the top regional universities in the
south. At Christopher Newport, a great importance is placed on
instructing and inspiring its students to live lives of meaning,
consequence and purpose. The University’s core values – honor,

recognized for their outstanding achievements and contributions:
Wason Center for Civic Leadership, President’s Leadership Program,
Ferguson Center for the Performing Arts, Mary M. Torggler Fine Arts
Center, and its nationally acclaimed athletic programs.
The Vice President reports directly to the University’s new
President, Rear Admiral (ret) William G. Kelly. This cabinet-level
position requires a seasoned leader with exceptional strategic
vision, relationship-building skills, and a proven track record in
philanthropy, donor stewardship, and institutional advancement. The
Vice President for University Advancement serves as a key
ambassador for the university, fostering strong partnerships with
alumni, donors, community leaders, and other stakeholders to
enhance the institution’s reputation, financial sustainability, and
overall impact. The Vice President for University Advancement will
have the highest level of integrity and unwavering character and
will lead with compassion. The new Vice President will be an
accomplished leader who embraces the culture of Christopher
Newport, has strong communication and relationship-building skills,
and exhibits a personal commitment to enhancing a culture of
kindness and a spirit of belonging and inclusion.
