Vice President, Individual Giving & Revenue Operations

POSITION SUMMARY:

HIAS seeks a Vice President, Individual Giving & Revenue Operations who has a track record of leading teams through transition and change management, in addition to deeply understanding the systems and structures needed to successfully run a midlevel and major gifts department. The incumbent will work closely with the Chief External Relations Officer (CERO) and other relevant staff to implement and drive a new strategic plan which reflects ambitious unrestricted goals for the next six years. The incumbent will be comfortable with helping staff drive towards revenue targets, work cross-departmentally, and be able to manage up, down, and across departmental and divisional divides. The candidate must also demonstrate a deep connection to HIAS’ mission, and the ability to lead team members through key transitions.

The Vice President, Individual Giving & Revenue Operations will partner with the CERO and other relevant leaders, including the Executive Director of the HIAS Foundation to leverage this opportunity to build on HIAS’ significant momentum to increase and diversify HIAS’ development portfolio. This will include the enhancement of existing relationships and the development of new relationships with individuals, foundations and others in the Jewish and broader community to support HIAS and refugees.

Note, the salary range for this position is $180,000.00-225,000.00.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Leads an outstanding development department to solidify HIAS’ development portfolio and seizes opportunities to take the organization’s fundraising to the next level.
  • Diversifies HIAS’ revenue streams to expand the organization’s support from foundations, individuals and other potential partners to diversify beyond governmental funding sources and create a more balanced revenue portfolio; identifies and implements strategies based on emerging trends in philanthropy and development.
  • Develops a best-in-class stewardship program for major donors to engage them in HIAS’ mission and strategy.
  • Engages and empowers HIAS’ Board of Directors to broaden its fundraising capability and goals.
  • Serves as a spokesperson for HIAS’ refugee protection work; speaks to groups and connect to individuals to build relationships with the Jewish community and other key constituencies.
  • Effectively manages a team of approximately ten staff and oversees department operations.
  • Acts as a key leader within HIAS to advance strategic organizational goals, collaborates with other departments, and ensures alignment across departments.
  • Partner with the HIAS Foundation on a potential 9-figure endowment campaign.
  • Manage a pool of up to 20 principal gift prospects to model best practice fundraising for the team.
  • Assist HIAS in increasing its major gift revenue to achieve its goal of up to $70-100 million in unrestricted revenue by 2030.
  • Utilize metrics and data to drive a comprehensive approach to managing a team of diverse fundraisers.
  • Create a learning environment so that all fundraisers are trained in modern fundraising practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree required; graduate degree in relevant field preferred.
  • 10-12+ years of management experience in nonprofit organization; familiarity with the American Jewish community.
  • Demonstrated success in development for an organization with multiple revenue streams; experience expanding and cultivating donor relationships.
  • Ability to design, explain, and implement annual strategic development plans, campaigns and fundraising events; experience working with funders of humanitarian, development, human rights and/or humanitarian efforts and/or the Jewish community, Jewish foundations/institutional funders.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; excellent organizational and problem-solving skills required.
  • Excellent management, budgetary and analytical skills; flexible and adaptable.
  • Travel, to include travel to insecure operating environments, may be required.
