Northwestern College is seeking a vice president for advancement
to replace a retiring VPA who has had a successful 15-year tenure.
This is a full-time, 12-month position that reports directly to the
president. We seek a dynamic leader who will serve as a valued
member of the president’s cabinet and a person who can build a
close connection to the president to continue the strong momentum
of advancing the college’s strategic initiatives. He/she will be a
team builder and strategic thinker who inspires trustees, faculty,
staff, alumni, parents, friends and other stakeholders to advance
the mission of the college through their involvement and
investment. The vice president is the chief advancement officer of
the college and will make personal donor visits his/her top
priority.
The successful candidate should possess:
- Evidence of an authentic Christian faith
- Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred)
- Five to 10 years of successful experience in fundraising and
other management at a senior level - Capacity to form and articulate vision and strategic direction
for advancement initiatives to further the college’s vision and
mission - Strong desire and willingness to travel in conjunction with
donor cultivation and solicitation - Demonstrated ability to manage and garner support for annual
giving, scholarships, planned giving, corporate/foundation
relations and major gift fundraising activities - A solid record in personally closing major gifts and experience
with comprehensive campaigns - Ability to select, train, supervise, inspire and lead an
experienced professional advancement team - An ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and peers
within the college leadership and with trustees and external
partners at the individual and organizational level - Demonstrated skill to work as a member of a senior management
team with strong capabilities in planning, organizing and
managing - Proven track record of working collaboratively with campus
leaders, admissions, facilities, food service, the president’s
office and other departments - Familiarity with advancement software systems and programs
- Experience providing development and oversight of an
advancement budget, assisting in allocating funds and spending on
items such as salaries, travel, events and stewardship all while
remaining within budget - Personal qualities associated with successful senior leaders,
including integrity, excellent oral and written communication
skills, sound judgment, initiative and a positive attitude.
