Jhpiego is a nonprofit global leader in the creation and delivery of transformative healthcare solutions for the developing world. In partnership with national governments, health experts, and local communities, we build health providers’ skills and we develop systems that save lives now and guarantee healthier futures for women and their families.

Pursuant to this mission, Jhpiego Kenya would like to document maternal healthcare videos from identified projects. We wish to enlist highly skilled consultant(s) to provide videography services.

The Global Engagement and Communications Office (GECO) is looking to show immediate, strong, and emotional connections between mothers and babies in Kenya through imagery that is universally understood. The intimate and deeply emotional bond between moms and babies is something that requires no translation, no deep context, no explanation. The goal is to get iconic images – that at a glance – communicate emotion and connection between moms and babies.  These images should feel incredibly intimate, up close and personal.

Most likely shot on a 35mm or 50mm lens in close proximity to the subjects (longer lenses are acceptable when circumstances require). Wide-angle establishing shots are preferred; however, the vast majority of the imagery should bring the viewer right up close to these moments and not be observed from a distance with a long lens.

But physically close in proximity and utilizing shallow depth of field to further draw attention to the subject of the imagery. Again, given that much of this footage will be used in environments where it will be cropped vertically or square, a wider-angle lens will give a sense of place while the physical proximity and shallow depth of field will focus the viewer’s attention on the intimate moment.

Video Specifications:

1. 4K (often this footage will be cropped vertically, so if shooting horizontally, please shoot in 4K for as much post-production flexibility as possible.)
2. 23.976/24 fps (projects will be edited in 23.976 or 24fps project files)
3. 60fps slow motion or S&Q – MAXIMUM (assets should not be longer than 1 minute, and more than 60fps is too slow for final edits.)
4. 4:2:2 10bit color depth if possible (if shooting 4:2:0 or 8bit, please try to “expose to the right” as much as possible without clipping highlights.)
5. LOG or RAW footage in native camera profiles (ex: Slog3.cine; Clog2, R3D, etc.) We will handle color correction in post-production. NOTE: Please Do Not “bake in” Rec709 conversion LUTs.
6. For each shot a minimum of 5-7 seconds, 10-15 is preferred.

With the guidance of the communication manager, the consultant shall deliver:

• At least 10 unedited raw footage for each day, for two days
• Captions for the videos
• Ensure consent forms are filled and signed – including names and ages of babies

• The consultant must demonstrate experience in videography work
• Demonstrate an understanding of the technical requirements of the work, production capabilities, and equipment for taking quality footage.
• Adhere to confidentiality; to NEVER share pictures/video of the community or healthcare workers filmed or photographed unless with written permission from Kenya’s communication manager

Interested candidates should submit their Cover Letter, CV, technical and financial proposals, outlining their relevant experience and understanding of the technical requirements of the work, production capabilities, and equipment for taking quality footage. Jhpiego Kenya office will facilitate transport to and from the field. Jhpiego Kenya will also pay for the invoices once submitted.
