Videographer Filmmaker – Short Film Production on Early Marriage

Background:

Emma organization is a feminist organization that provides rehabilitation, development assistance, and program services to vulnerable communities in Kurdistan.

Since its establishment in 2013, Emma organization have worked on strengthening its social media, media presence, and coverage to promote its main objectives and assure its visibility in the humanitarian and development work space in Kurdistan. Emma, in partnership with Oxfam is part of the Masarouna project, a regional project in the Middle East and North Africa focusing on young people’s reproductive health and rights that is funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs

In 2024, after efforts to amend the Iraqi personal status law and legalize early marriage and for the purpose of expanding outreach and increasing efforts of advocacy and awareness raising related to young people’s Reproductive Health, Emma is planning to produce an awareness short film on early marriage and its consequences.

Therefore, Emma intends to hire a qualified Filmmaking company to produce and film a short film on early marriage to be published on Emma’s social media.

 

Requirements 

• The company should be an experienced filmmaking company who can deliver and edit high-quality audiovisual materials. The company should deliver the following:
  • Short Film Script: The Filmmaker company should submit a detailed script of the short film.
  • short Film: All videos should be delivered in high quality in terms of resolution, exposure, framing, focus, stabilization, etc.

Audio: All audio should be delivered in high quality in terms of sound, and mic placement, and be synced to video. 

• The company should prepare for a weekly planning call/meeting with the team.
• The company will supply a first draft of the deliverables and include rounds of feedback before delivering a final version.

 

Deliverables 

1. Two 5-8 minutes (edited) Short Film
   1. The Filmmaker company will provide 2 versions:
      1. A version with Kurdish audio and English subtitles
      2. Another version with no subtitles and no branding
   2. The company will supply a first draft of the deliverables and include rounds of feedback before delivering a final version.

2. All raw materials (photo, audio, and video)

 

Timeline: 

• 6-13 October 2024: Recruitment/Contract
• 13-30 October: script is finalized
• 1-20 November: Production
• 20-30 November 2024-Editing and Reviewing
• 10 December 2024: The first and final draft delivered.

 

Logistics:

• Recording of the short film to be preferably in Erbil or the surrounding area
• The production team will be responsible for their own transportation and other costs related to filming per their financial offer.

 

Supervision:

The work of the company will be supervised closely by the project manager for technical support on the chosen topics.  Several rounds of consultation and feedback will take place in all stages of the production, including the script preparation. 

• Fluency in Kurdish and English; Arabic is a plus
• Minimum 2 years of experience working in the field of production and filmmaking.
• Experience in communicating and working with a wide range of people including people of culturally diverse backgrounds.

Interested individuals or advertising/production companies with relevant experience and skills based on the ToR can submit their Expression of Interest (EOI), including the following:

1. Cover letter of no more than 1 page introducing the consultant/company and intention to deliver the assignment. The cover letter should also indicate the consultants’ availability for the proposed period.
2. The technical proposal should provide details on the proposed methodology responding to the ToR and the deliverables; capacity in line with the competencies required for the assignment, including references to experience with similar assignments and providing relevant work samples; CVs of the consulting team directly involved in the assignment, including their specific roles. A technical proposal should not be longer than 5 pages, excluding annexes, and should include examples/samples of previous similar work.
3. Detailed work plan.
4. The financial proposal includes a one-page budget of the offer, covering all major anticipated costs. An accompanying work plan must be submitted too.
