The British Government is currently recruiting an Administrative Support Officer to assist its government office in Cartagena, Colombia. The Administrative Assistant will provide financial and administrative support to both the Colombia team and the region.

Roles and responsibilities:

Provide general administrative support to the Cartagena team across a wide spectrum of activities, including:

  • The translation and drafting of official documents and correspondence.
  • Assisting colleagues with travel bookings.
  • Coordinating logistical arrangements of events hosted by the team.
  • Providing linguistic support for non-Spanish speaking trainers and visitors.

Financial management and reporting: 

  • Day to day financial record keeping.
  • Negotiations with suppliers and processing of payments.
  • Ensure correct and timely submission of monthly accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with financial controls.

  • Must be a 5-Eyes National (refer to other information section).
  • Due to UK Government security clearance requirements, the successful candidate must be a British citizen or a citizen of Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States. They must also have lived and worked in one of those countries for at least 6 months within the past 5 years.
  • Must have the legal status to live and work in Colombia.
  • Previous experience in a similar administrative role.
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent time management, organisation and communication skills.

Language requirements: 

Language: Spanish and English
Level of language required: Fluent in both languages

  • Previous finance experience.
  • Possession of valid UK Government security clearance would be highly advantageous.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.

If during the reserve period of 6-12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.

Funding is available for job-related learning and development.

**Please note: Due to UK Government security clearance requirements, the successful candidate must be a British citizen or a citizen of Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States. They must also have lived and worked in one of those countries for at least six (6) months within the past five (5) years. The successful candidate will need to complete UK Government security clearance procedures before commencing employment (this may take several months).  

The estimated start date is tentative pending the successful candidate’s completion of security clearance procedures. As such, the start date is only an estimate and will be agreed upon by the candidate and hiring manager once these security clearance procedures are complete.
