Main purpose of job:

The British Embassy in Brasilia invites applications from students in at least their 3rd semester for the above part-time position. 

This is an exciting opportunity within the Prosperity Group. The intern will provide support to the Agriculture team and Trade and Economics team, including analytical and data support on agricultural trade and market access, as well as administrative support. 

This is a great opportunity to be part of an international team that contributes to a high-profile agenda on Agriculture and Trade.

The position will suit an energetic, motivated self-starter with an interest in agriculture, trade and economics. The ideal candidate must have the ability to work both independently and as part of a cohesive team. We also expect strong organisational skills, attention to detail and commitment to the tasks.

Roles and responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be involved in various agriculture and market access tasks, which will include the following:

  • Compiling and updating a reference database of key facts and figures about UK-Brazil agricultural and wider trade policy;
  • Drafting briefings on agricultural trade and market access issues for key meetings, and taking notes / minutes of these meetings;
  • Provide support for high level government visits and events, including scheduling meetings, organising travel and liaising with key stakeholders (internally and externally);
  • Preparing and maintaining stakeholder mapping and engagement plans
  • Conducting research and providing support for analysis and reporting on the latest developments on Brazil’s trade agenda;
  • Updating key documents and internal systems to support the market access agenda; and
  • Providing wider administrative, logistical and translation support to the Agriculture and Trade & Economics teams as necessary

Essential on arrival: 

  • Ongoing undergraduate studies in International Relations, Economics, Business Administration, Public Policy or other relevant degree;
  • Excellent IT skills, including Excel;
  • Fluent written and oral proficiency in both English and Portuguese
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Team-work skills, open to learn and receive feedback

Language requirements: 

Language: Portuguese / English

Level of language required: Fluent

Desirable: 

  • Knowledge of Brazilian trade policy and ongoing negotiations;
  • Familiarity with public trade databases;
  • Project management skills;
  • Administrative skills, for example, organising meetings, writing readouts and managing trackers.
