Main purpose of job:
The British Embassy Bangkok is a large diplomatic mission of around 150 staff delivering a dynamic and rapidly expanding programme of activity in support of the UK’s objectives including on economic and sustainable development, trade, security, open societies, consular services and law enforcement. This is an exciting opportunity to join our diverse team.
This is an excellent opportunity to make a tangible operational contribution whilst deepening project administrative experience in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
This front line, customer-facing, service delivery role involves providing support to staff at the British Embassy Bangkok. The incumbent also has the opportunity to provide administrative support across all portfolios in the Corporate Services Team (CST) as well Senior Leadership corporate initiatives. The Corporate Services Team is one of the largest in the Embassy, providing support to all teams in all aspects of corporate delivery including Events, Estates, Finance, Health and Safety, HR, IT, Logistics, Protocol and Security
The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and administrative skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills in Thai and English, strong teamwork abilities with the willingness and enthusiasm to learn new skills.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
Provide effective operational support across all Corporate functions, demonstrating initiative and judgement on how the job is done. This support will be provided to:
Deputy Head of Mission (DHM) with corporate initiatives (50%)
- Support to Inclusion Committee and other Embassy committees (minutes of meeting/action plans).
- Support planning for annual King’s Birthday Party.
- Support to allocation of crisis team roles to new staff members
- Co-ordination of section and Embassy organograms and staff wall.
- Support completion of annual reports such as the Cost of Living Allowance report, Diplomatic Service
- Families Association report as well as any ad-hoc requests from headquarters.
Head of Corporate Services (HoCS) and Corporate Services Team (50%)
- Support in completion of annual audits
- Support in the coordination of the Embassy parking process and policy.
- Assist in the delivery of HR transformation projects.
- Work closely with team leads to keep the Corporate Services Teams site and all resource materials up to date.
- Act as Logistics back-up – supporting the team with tasks relating to the importation of official shipments and VAT exemptions.
- Provide resilience to the wider Corporate Services Team and take on new/additional work streams as required.
Supporting both DHM and HoCS as needed by creating corporate initiatives/programme communications content (e.g. graphic materials, presentations, resource materials, posters) and contributing to programmes that actively engage staff.

In times of peak operation demand, work flexibly within the Section and within the Embassy
All staff will be expected to make a corporate contribution to the smooth running of the British Embassy, either through a committee membership or another voluntary role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English and Thai).
- Advanced creative digital skills to be used with current platforms (e.g. Powerpoint, MS Word).
- Strong numerical and MS Excel skills

The British Embassy Bangkok encourages all staff to develop their capabilities, through both formal training (courses) and informal (job-shadowing, coaching, on-the-job training etc.). The majority of our formal L&D opportunities are drawn from FCDO resources. All staff are encouraged to share their skills and experience with colleagues, through informal training (‘lunch & learn’) or coaching/mentoring. All staff are eligible for 5 L&D leave days a year.
The British Embassy Bangkok has an active Learning & Development Committee which works hard to provide a comprehensive L&D offer, which staff can also bid for additional financial support as long as it is relevant to the Section’s objectives.
