The British Embassy Bahrain has a vacancy for Residence Steward, job grade S1.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the set up and delivery of formal events at the Ambassador’s Residence. You will welcome guests to the Residence, and will offer and serve drinks and food at receptions, meetings, and formal dinners. Where external caterers are brought in, you will supervise and ensure the rules of the Residence are observed. You will also be responsible for cleaning and maintaining to a high standard the official areas of the Ambassador’s Residence. 

 

Duties and responsibilities:

– Events and services

  • Provide high quality table service including breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and receptions.
  • Provide high quality service for ad hoc meetings (coffee, tea & drinks).
  • Set-up of events, including table decoration and seating arrangements.
  • Work closely in coordination with the Residence Manager and Chef to deliver an exceptional standard of service and reflect the values of the British Embassy.
  • Manage external staff at events, ensuring they deliver a high-level service in keeping with the Embassy’s expectations.

– Cleaning

  • Maintain official areas of the Residence to an appropriate standard for daily use and for specific events.
  • Dust and polish furniture.
  • Vacuum and polish floors.
  • Daily cleaning of guest bathrooms.
  • Prepare guest bedrooms as required.
  • Stocktaking of domestic cleaning supplies.

– Laundry

  • Wash and iron official laundry to a high standard.
  • Keep linen cupboards tidy and ensure linen, table covers, towels are ready for use.
  • Maintain an inventory of linen stock and undertake quarterly quality checks and stocktakes.

– Maintenance of Embassy Residence assets:

  • Polishing of the Embassy silverware.
  • Maintenance of the inventory and reporting breakages, quarterly reporting requirements.
  • Manage and monitor the Residence alcohol store, carry out regular stock takes and report to the Residence Manager.
  • Supervise external contractors.

This is not an exhaustive list but covers the key set of tasks and responsibilities. The jobholder may be asked to carry out other ad-hoc duties upon discussion with the line manager. The jobholder will be expected to do all tasks within their level of skill and ability.

  • High standard of personal presentation and able to demonstrate discretion, courtesy, consideration, professionalism and a pleasant demeanour at all times.
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
  • Good English language skills, both written and spoken. Able to express ideas and messages clearly.

  • Prior hospitality experience (silver service)
  • Recognised food safety certificate/ qualification
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Holds a clean and valid Bahrain driving licence

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role. The salary for this role is at BHD 488.600 per month based on 35 hours per week (specific hours to be confirmed at a later time). The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these are subject to adjustment and may at times be fluid dependant on the needs at the Residence, which can include early mornings and late evenings.

Any hours worked over the contracted 35 per week can be claimed back as time off in lieu (TOIL). There may be requirement for some hours to be transferred from during week to weekends on occasion, and the jobholder will be expected to be flexible.

This role is for a full-time employment on a permanent contract basis. The successful candidate will be subject to a three-month probationary period. The appointment is subject to satisfactory local and UK security clearances.

If you are exempt from paying local social insurance in Bahrain, your salary will be abated by an amount equivalent to the social insurance that would otherwise be payable. Further information on this may be provided at interview if necessary.

No relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. On-site accommodation can be provided if required (a small 1-bedroom apartment being available to successful candidate). The package includes private medical insurance and learning and development (L&D) opportunities. Specific training and mentoring for the role will be provided, and your Line Manager will help you develop a personalised L&D plan and will share opportunities, resources and guidance to ensure you continue your learning.
