Main purpose of job:
Since 2017, the UK has brought innovation to the infrastructure sector in Peru. After successfully delivering the 2019 Panamerican Games, the UK Government has signed a second and third Government to Government (G2G) agreement in Peru to support the delivery of the £1.7bn ‘Reconstruction with Changes’ programme to rebuild infrastructure damaged in the 2017 El Nino event; to support PEIP Bicentenal Schools Programme in the planning and deliver of 75 schools across the country and is currently supporting Pronis and MINSA in the delivery of three high complexity hospitals. The G2Gs have allowed the UK to become Peru’s chosen partner on infrastructure and the UK is home to a strong, diverse range of companies working in the sector’s supply chain, allowing Peru to execute more than £8 billion pounds in infrastructure projects. Today, we are bidding for G2G opportunities in the rail, urban transport and irrigation sector.
Led by Department of Business and Trade (DBT) Deputy Director and Head of Infrastructure, you will work with a wider infrastructure team at the British Embassy to support the delivery on the DBT’s network objectives in line with the main pillars of:
- Trade Support – work with UK companies to develop opportunities and support their business in Peru.
- Promotion – showcase UK technology and innovation mainly for the Construction, Healthcare, Water and Sanitation, Transport and Mobility, Railways and Airports sectors at trade shows and new promotional forums.
- Market Access – identify and create action plans for the key market barriers facing UK companies when doing business in sub-sectors including but not limited to the above sectors.
In this role, the candidate will effectively manage the existent pipeline of projects (spurred or not by the G2Gs) and at the same time proactively search for other business opportunities, engaging with high level public officials and private stakeholders in order to pitch the value added by UK businesses. This position will see the successful candidate exposed to ministers to senior members of companies and therefore strong communication and judgement skills and a high level of resilience and persistence are essential.
We are looking for a self-starter passionate about infrastructure candidate that is willing to creatively create opportunities for UK businesses while at the same time creating value for the Peruvian infrastructure sector. For this, a crosssectorial approach to projects is needed, which means working closely with the economic diplomacy team, other DBT sectors and the embassy as a whole.
Roles and responsibilities:
The successful candidate will need to carry out the following activities and provide wide support to:
Strategic business planning – Plan, negotiate and deliver on ambitious goals aligned with the network objectives of: Trade Support, Promotion and Market Access. Design, with the Deputy Director and Head of Infrastructure a long-term strategy for the Infrastructure sector in Peru, communicate the plan and deliver medium and short term outcomes.
Cross-sectorial work – Work across sectors, identifying opportunities with colleagues from other sectors within DBT Peru with similar objectives and within the Embassy as a whole, as well as collaborate with regional and sub regional (Andean) leadership of the Infrastructure sectors.
Project and Campaign Management – You will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of strategic campaigns aimed at promoting UK business engagement in the Peruvian infrastructure sector. This includes designing and managing targeted initiatives to identify and capitalize on new market opportunities. You will oversee the development and implementation of project plans, ensuring alignment with broader trade objectives. By building strong relationships with senior stakeholders in both the UK and Peru, you will facilitate partnerships and support UK companies in crafting effective market entry strategies. Your role will involve regular stakeholder engagement, tracking progress across multiple workstreams, and delegating tasks and responsibilities to ensure timely delivery and impact.
Business development – Aside from the opportunities spurred by the G2Gs, you will research on infrastructure opportunities with a focus on innovation, technology and sustainability, the successful candidate must be able to identify strengths and expertise from the UK supply chain for potential opportunities within the Peruvian Infrastructure sector. This will allow you to prospect new commercial opportunities in both public and private sectors and engage with multiple stakeholders to creatively develop the market when needed.
