Main purpose of job:
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is the UK government department responsible for promoting and financing international trade and development, and championing free trade. In Peru, DBT operates within the British Embassy in Lima, with a team that works primarily through several sector-specific export promotion campaigns.
This is a brilliant opportunity to work on one of the most important export campaigns for the British government in Peru, supporting business (exports and investment) between the UK and Peru in the Infrastructure sector, and working to overcome market barriers in the Peruvian market that prevent British companies doing business in this specific sector. You will support the ongoing management of Government-to-Government (G2G) agreements directly with the Peruvian government in delivering over £5.2bn of social infrastructure, sharing best practice and knowledge transfer. This is an ideal position for someone with the ability to work collaboratively with an international team. The job will require the successful candidate to take responsibility for delivering both quickly and to a high standard.
You will assist in the development and management of a pipeline of commercial opportunities in Peru for UK companies with a particular focus on, but not limited to, Construction, Healthcare, Water and Sanitation, Transport and Mobility, Railways and Airports and Renewable Energy (including hydrogen). You will also be responsible for the team’s administrative tasks and for regularly updating our client-management database.
Roles and responsibilities:
Job distribution: Infrastructure 80% and Office Support 20%.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on improving bilateral trade and investment between the United Kingdom and Peru, especially through supporting the increase in UK exports. The Infrastructure & Energy teams work to support high value UK companies with significant trade potential and implementation of current G2Gs.
Trade support:
- Answer general and diverse enquiries from Peruvian and UK stakeholders;
- Analyse the demands of the Infrastructure and Energy sectors and search for UK suppliers that offer matching solutions;
- Organise meetings and agendas for UK companies and internal stakeholders;
- Support implementation of ongoing G2G agreements, as requested by the Infrastructure managers;
- Support and participate in meetings with Peruvian and UK companies, both virtually and in person;
- Organise visits and events for companies coming to Peru, including elaborating briefings and scheduling meetings with potential partners and key industry bodies;
- Provide overarching support to the DBT team, particularly around information and budget management.
Trade promotion:
- Assist with logistical and administrative arrangements for official events such as trade fairs, trade missions, official visits (ministers/senior level contacts), seminars, and workshops;
- Support official visits both in the UK and in Peru, including supporting colleagues to build programmes;
- Identify and contact prospective UK suppliers for commercial opportunities;
- Maintain an updated contact database and ensure impact and interactions are recorded on DBT’s database.
- The position will suit an energetic team player who is motivated and a self-starter with an interest in the commercial sector. It will require a positive and proactive attitude that thinks in terms of unlocking opportunities for UK companies in Peru.

Candidates must be eligible to live and work in Peru in their own right.
The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance and professional reference checks.
The FCDO also operates an agile workforce. To facilitate this, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as we may reasonably require.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 6-12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
The UK government promotes and encourages professional development. You will have access to UK government courses and on-the-job learning and development opportunities (seminars, workshops, job shadowing, training programmes etc.), as well as the option of bidding for external courses through a competitive process.
