Main Purpose of Job:
The jobholder will join the creative and collaborative China Communications network, working to the Head of Comms at the British Consulate-General Chongqing under the overall direction of the Communications Counsellor in Beijing. This role will be to help shape how the UK is perceived by decision-makers and target public audiences in Soutwest China (provinces of Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and Chongqing Municipality) through creative, engaging and high impact digital content and offline events that support our public diplomacy and policy goals. This will require a good understanding of the UK-China relationship and our priorities and the changing digital and social media landscape, trends and audience preferences in Southwest China.
The jobholder will use photography, video-production, graphic design, writing and other content development skills, as well as events planning, supplier and budget management and other execution skills to help deliver our public diplomacy objectives in Southwest China. This will involve mapping and analysing local audiences and stakeholders, producing tailored long and short form social media posts, video and other content, press releases, fliers and other products efficiently and in line with network priorities. The jobholder will need to stay up to date with social media trends and best practices to optimise our communication efforts. They will ensure that all our digital output is founded on audience insight, monitoring and evaluation.
The jobholder will need to demonstrate excellent communication and organisation skills and a practical approach to multi-tasking and problem solving. Being a team player, with sound judgement, strong interpersonal skills, a flexible can-do attitude, and an ability to both trouble shoot, and spot opportunities is essential.
The successful candidate will work as part of the tight-knit and high performing Chongqing comms team to extend our reach, build our digital following and increase our impact. What the Jobholder will be Expected to Achieve:
Social Media Management and Content Creation (70%):
The Digital Officer will be responsible for managing the British Consulate’s social media channels on Weibo and WeChat, developing social media content and delivering digital communications activities on our social media channels.
