Main purpose of job:
The British Embassy in Mexico is part of a worldwide network representing British climate, development, political, economic and consular interests overseas. We have an exciting opportunity for an internship programme to support the Embassy’s Climate and Development teams. This is a new position within the Climate and Development Sections at the British Embassy, which will give the successful candidate plenty of opportunity to learn new skills and develop existing ones.
The successful candidate will have the chance to work face-to-face with diplomats and senior managers and be involved in the diplomatic life of an Embassy. This is an exciting and challenging position, which covers a wide range of analytical and policy tasks as well as administrative and logistical ones. It will involve contact with most sections of the Embassy and a range of external contacts in Mexico and in the UK. We often work under time pressure in a fast-paced environment.
The core purpose of the Climate and Development Intern is to play a key role in supporting the Embassy’s efforts to strengthen UK-Mexico cooperation across a wide range of strategic priorities. These include sustainable development and governance, climate action and biodiversity, science diplomacy, technology development and innovation, sustainable finance and public policy. The successful candidate will work with the Development and Climate team directly helping with travel assignments to ensure high-quality outcomes, will assist in delivering impactful projects, coordinating events, conducting research, and engaging with stakeholders from government, academia, civil society, and the private sector.

The British Embassy in Mexico City is looking for a Climate and Development Intern to support the work with the Climate and Development teams, aligned with the UK’s objectives in Mexico on a range of issues.
This is a varied and challenging position, which covers a wide range of climate and development related tasks as well as administrative duties.

Candidates must be able to live and work in Mexico in their own right at time of application.
The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance and professional reference checks.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
