Main purpose of internship
Provide political monitoring and administrative support to the Political and the Climate, Nature and Energy Team at the British Consulate-General in São Paulo, particularly in relation to Brazilian politics and engagements at the state and municipal levels, as well as support for events and official visits.
We are looking for a dynamic candidate able to work from São Paulo while collaborating with two teams based across three different cities: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Brasília. The role requires strong teamwork, interpersonal skills, advanced English proficiency (speaking, listening and reading skills), and strong interest for the climate and political work.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge on politics and climate change, analytical capacity, as well as interpersonal and communication skills, while engaging with the fast-paced dynamics of diplomatic life at the UK Mission in Brazil, playing an important role in advancing policy priorities and network objectives.
On the Political Team side, the intern will primarily support the monitoring and analysis of the 2026 elections and support stakeholder engagement activities. On the Climate side, the intern will support activities under the UK PACT programme and the green finance workstream, including support to reporting, events organisation and international missions.
Roles and responsibilities
For both the Climate and Political teams, the jobholder is expected to:
- Support the monitoring and production of analyses and reports on the 2026 elections, with a particular focus on the state of São Paulo, domestic politics and climate issues. The role may also occasionally involve attending events and conferences (during working hours) and producing brief reports and summaries for colleagues (20%).
- Support engagement with working-level contacts and stakeholders from government, private sector and civil society, including assisting with the coordination of meetings for the senior staff, in coordination with the Executive Office (30%)
- Provide support for events, official visits and missions, including by British delegations to Brazil and by local staff to the UK. Responsibilities include booking venues, sending invitations, arranging catering and other services, supporting logistics, and maintaining tracking spreadsheets and other administrative tools (30%)
- Support the administrative work of both teams. Responsibilities include updating documents, translating texts, coordinating mailing lists, organising files, and taking meeting notes (20%)
The FCDO operates an agile workforce. To facilitate this, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as we may reasonably require.

- Currently pursuing a degree in International Relations, Public Policy, Public Administration, Law, or a related field. Interns must be enrolled in undergraduate program at a Brazilian university throughout the duration of the internship.
- Interest and affinity with policy and climate change agendas.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with individuals holding diverse political views.
- Analytical and writing skills (in both English and Portuguese).
- Time management skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and work effectively with large groups.
- Ability and willingness to support the team with logistical tasks, such as taking meeting notes, arranging translation or transport services, managing guest lists for events, among others.
- Legal status to live and work in Brazil in your own right, from time of Application.

Applicants must be enrolled in undergraduate program at a Brazilian university throughout the duration of the internship and must have the legal status to live and work in Brazil at time of application.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.

Working patterns
This role is part-time at 30 hours per week. The British Consulate General operates on a 60-40 hybrid model, with staff being permitted to work from home up to two days per week. The intern may choose to work 9h – 15h or 13h – 19h, Monday – Friday.
Please note occasional out of hours work may be required (e.g. to support on events).
